That's why you are going to buy the D600, right?

Oh wait. You like the Canon lenses.

Maybe on balance Canon continues to deliver great value, all things considered, taking into account lenses and bodies.

Oh wait. You never intended to buy a camera in the near future in the D600 / 6D class?

Oh wait. You've never seen or held or used a 6D? Is your middle name Ken Rockwell? But you know it is "bare minimum for a premium"?

Al this, and the performance of the 6D AF system is still unknown. With its newer array, AF processor and algorithms, plus the highly sensitive middle point it could be much better in the real world than a rebel AF system. Let's wait and see.

While we may indeed have not used the camera, I think it's safe to say that however well this camera might perform, it would be better still if it has 9 cross type AF instead of just one.

I can't believe all the traction coming from a (probably) misquoted low-level Canon person, and the tons of assumptions that the 6D AF is inadequate or inaccurate. It could well be, and I'd expect it to be, as good or better than the 60D. But that is speculation on my part -- I need to try one to see how it works and if it suits my needs.

MintMar -- What a lot of bogus whining! Your engineering and marketing expertise have you well positioned to start your own premium camera company offering bargain prices -- go for it! Don't buy Nikon, build and sell your own vision!

I suppose the whining disappointment reflects a pent-up demand among a percentage of experienced Canon users for a low cost, premium output FF body. Not gonna happen folks, at least not until 5D3 prices drop or new models supersede the current (new) roster.

Even better still if they were spaced appropriately, 9 cross points all in the middle still wouldn't tempt me!

same as 5D II --- the 6D concentrates on giving a very good center point / assist points
the 6D usable to EV -3

I suspect it will focus better than the 5D II it replaces

the 5D III replaced the 1DS III and so required the "pro" focusing capability

With the exception of the center point, do you honestly expect the non-cross type points to be better than the cross type points on 60d? If yes, by all means wait for the reviews.

I for one don't need to wait because I know that a non-cross type point cannot surpass a cross-type point in focusing accuracy and I don't need to wait for three months to find what I already know especially considering how much time I have spent with 5d and 5dII with a flash on top for focus assist .

For most people it doesn't take much to look at the white paper specs and price to determine which body is a better value and which is the bare minimum...I'm sorry this is difficult for you but we can't help you there.

Oh no, no way. The camera builder is Canon, not me. And if they want my money, they must make me happy. :-) But thank you for the bogus suggestion anyway.

I suppose the whining disappointment reflects a pent-up demand among a percentage of experienced Canon users for a low cost, premium output FF body. Not gonna happen folks, at least not until 5D3 prices drop or new models supersede the current (new) roster.

There is development and the market forces the flagship features of the yesterday to be trickled down to lower levels. Let's see how well this Canon's p*ssing against the wind will fare. ;-)

And I don't think that people here want 1Ds for a Rebel price. I, for example, want a D700 style camera for a D700 style price, that's fair, isn't it? And spare yourself sending me to Nikon. D700 doesn't take EF lenses yet.

So much for the 1D with the Rebel price tag fanboy defense argument. ;-)

I think we should be clear: the 1DX replaced both the 1Ds3 and 1D4; the 5D3 replaced the 5D2; the 6D is a new entry level FF with no antecedent to replace, not a 5D2 replacement.

The possibility that the 6D may be able to compete and possibly better the 5D2 in center AF, IQ and video, is really a set of positives we should be considering, looking at the new model, not that it doesn't match up to the 5D3, D800 or D600.

Naturally, at this price point, we aren't going to get all the bells and whistles, or even some features we like in higher end camera. But if IQ is good and AF consistent, we should be able to live with its few "shortcomings". It's not like we were promised more and got less. It seems like, compares to the 5D2, we are getting more at a lower price than that camera's introduction.

MintMar -- "And I don't think that people here want 1Ds for a Rebel price." Actually, you CAN get a 1Ds for a T3i price!

That's just ridiculous whining

You like to pick a little bit from each brand. And then Canon should build for you And the reason is: just because you like it

In the same interview with imaging resourse on resolution he basicly admits they can't really provide more resolution on a sensor without negative effects. I guess its time to start using Sony sensors then to provide the best camera availalble to their customers.

Not to forget the whining from those who would never buy the 6D / D600 class anyway and to whom the camera was never marketed anyway.

Why not? I own a 7D....did you miss that too? How do you know I don't want a lightweight/FF body for traveling to sketchy places? It's clear I own several bodies for different purposes, so how do you know I'm not looking for one of these? You must be the Canon marketing team in disguise since you are clearly wrong about the target market...

Highly unlikely, especially when you have multiple 5D3s, but are you? If so, why a $2000-2100 class full-frame than one of your 5D Mark 3s?

The 1DIII and 5DII are going up for sale this weekend. That will leave me with a 1DIV, 7D (water cam), 5DIII's, and a MkIIn which I will never sell. It's possible I might look at a D600 for a project coming up since it's sensor blows anything Canon has out of the water including the 7K 1DX.

I'm in the target market and I don't think the value of this 6D camera is as good as it should be at its price point, not when a $800 Rebel has 9 cross type AF.

Actually, I would've liked to also hear Canon's explanation on the half assed single axis electronic level and 97% VF coverage.
