Why? To me that Canon guys' line sent a message: "we think your AF is not 100% critical. So we can give you something underperforming." If I were a Canon manager on the interview, I wouldn't say anything like that even if I were thinking it...

In the thread title. You can't logically infer the thread title from the quote you extracted from the interview, but you went ahead and wrote it, ironically including the word "honest".

Also 6D is not "the cheapest camera".
It's the least expensive full frame camera (between Nikon and Canon) or the least expensive Canon full-frame if you consider the D600 and 6D prices roughly equivalent..

The price has not been finalized.
dpreview: "Canon hasn't yet offered any firm commitment on pricing or availability for the EOS 6D, [...] Its price is likely to be in the same ball park as the Nikon D600"

Well, that was my point exactly.
How is the 6D an upgrade for a 7D owner - considering the inferior AF system
Which, of course, goes straight against the argument that some nuts here are making (was it NutStar ??) that the 6D is targeted at 60D/7D upgraders.
What an inane post!
Last I checked, Canon made a number of DLSR's not named "7D" at various price points. If you're going to "upgrade" from a $1600 crop camera, it's not going to be to a $2100 full frame camera; for that small incremental cost, you're not going to get everything in the 7D, plus a good FF sensor. You can whine about that all the time (as, indeed, you and several others do), but it's the economic reality.
We all (well, most of us; I understand that whiners want everything for a low price) prioritize our wish list for our next camera body. For some, state-of-the-art AF is more important than IQ; that would be fine, if you understand the concept of a product line, and you're willing to pay for the best (gee, you want great AF in a FF? Try the 5D3; duh). Now, most of us (I understand the the whiners aren't able to do this) are able to focus on practically everything that's not a flying bird, even with my old 10D's AF system; and I had decent success with BIF with my 5D2. If you can't focus with a 5D2 or a 6D on your kids playing games, bad on you; it's really not that hard; I took thousands of photos of my kids playing games with my manual focus film camera, and my 10D; focus was rarely an issue.
So the "crippled" AF on the 6D undoubtedly will fit the needs of its target market just fine. For those whose needs aren't met by it, Canon has two other FF cameras for sale. And if your budget is too limited, that's life; live with the 7D (a great camera, BTW).

$2099 at Canon USA vs $2097 for the D600 on Amazon. Check you facts before arguing.
You don't have facts. Canon list price is not comparable to Amazon.com retail price. But anyway on the face of it, it is a distinction without a difference.
The point being that nobody is entitled to having the top of the line Canon AF in the least expensive Canon full frame camera.
The camera is what it is. I expect that a photographer as skilled and well equipped as you never had any intention to buy a camera in the $2000-$2100 full-frame class.

Also, most of them are denouncing a class of camera they never had any intention of buying. That is not to forget the fact that 99% of them have never tried it, let alone touched it.
Monito, just curious, is the 6D supposed to grow the following features magically in our hands when we "touch" it??
-more VF coverage
-more MP
-more cross-type focus points
-more fps
-an extra card slot
-pop-up flash
-a much better sensor
Does it magically grow these things like a chia pet?? Ch Ch Ch Chia!!

If there were any merit to your arguments you would not need to attempt to insult users by mangling their name and calling others "some nuts". I last heard that tactic in grade school yards until I began to see it on the intarwebz.

7D is great camera indeed ! I love it to bits.
Maybe it is just me [ after reading this thread, maybe not ] , but I felt a bit of let down when I saw the specs for the 6D. Simply because of the AF and SD card slot.
I do not say that the 6D is rubbish camera though. I just don't like calling it step up from 7D.
Is it alternative for people who prefer better IQ?
Most probably, yes. I think we all can see that to be quite certain, really. Landscape shooters will be delighted I guess.
Will I buy 6D?
No, I will aim for 5D3 instead.
Have I considered 5D2?
Yes. If I still had 40D, I guess, I would aim for 5D2 instead.
IMHO, 6D will be great tool people who photograph landscape, architecture and such. ( if the center HP AF pt is really that great ) People who photograph life, action and so on [people like me], will not be satisfied with live-view focusing.
Why are people upset about the 6D?
Well, a] because they see what Nikon released and they feel that they should also have the same choice. b] 'cause they like to be upset, damn it!

Monito, you MANIPULATED my message and moved my line where it wasn't. It's unbelievable what you did, and lost all credibility.

Keep it coming, we are getting a good laugh out of you and your buddy.
I've noticed a lot of whining about a camera you've never seen, must less used, and amusing attempts to make fun of arguments you can't refute.
You think the D600 is as good as the 5D3? Buy one!! You think the 6D sucks? Don't buy it!! Another couple of concepts that seem to have escaped you.
