p.5 #1 · leaked Canon 6D full frame

Monito wrote:
It's not a $750 price reduction. B&H price is $3464 today. You might get spot sales here and there with large reductions, but the B&H price is pretty much the standard by which the industry goes, because they sell large volumes. If they felt that the spot sales and second-rate retailers were providing any real depreciating price pressure, B&H would adjust their price very quickly. B&H are not stupid.

So I guess it's people like you then who will go and buy one at B&H for full price now that 818 people just bought them for $2750 yesterday/today....

Spot sales my ass, this cameras value has just tanked. There would be no need for spot sales if the camera was flying off the shelves...

The figure of 818 people is attached to the current (higher) price, so it is meaningless. Especially meaningless in isolation.

You are free to think that B&H is stupid or that primarily stupid people buy from B&H.

Spot sales. You can't get the camera at $2750 from Adorama today or tomorrow. There can be a spot sale for a couple of days and then weeks at the usual price close to the introductory price. That's what a spot sale is.

Spot sales by single retailers here and there and occasionally are not the price standard.

Spot sales are motivated by many things that have nothing to do with current sales volume, including upselling and attracting new customers who will have some future loyalty and will tell friends on internet forums, perhaps even this one. That provides lots of free advertising and forgoing some profit on a some cameras is cheap for them.

If the price had really depreciated the $750 you are trumpeting, then it would be the price today and tomorrow and for weeks after, and it would be the price at many retailers including B&H.

That is not the case and thus the price has not depreciated $750. QED.

Not interested in sending cash to you or buying from you. That's got nothing to do with the discussion you are ignoring. Similarly the fact that I just bought a camera and a lens has nothing to do with it. But you are free to continue to ignore the facts and the points.

So, it looks like this camera could be for real. Canon Rumors just reports that Adorama had a pre-order page for $2,099 before being pulled.

http://www.canonrumors.com/2012/09/adorama-jumps-the-gun-offers-eos-6d-preorder/

I think it'll be very very tough for Canon to sell this camera for $2,099, considering most people in the market for full frame are probably aware of the recent deals of 5D Mark III or they probably go for D600 instead.

Unless its new sensor is another breakthrough or comes with phase detection autofocus to distinguish itself from 5D Mark III, the price will drop really fast.

5D2 is currently selling NEW at 1899$, so this 6D has to TOP it in the AF department or it does not make any sense...

Not in my book. It's right up there with B&H for me.

+1

Based on the leaked specs, it says that it has only 1 cross-type at the center and everyone seems to take off with that speculation. However, I do believe that the specs should read,

"11-point all cross-type AF (f/2.8 at center: Dual Cross Sensor)".

I guess it's okay if the accuracy is as good as that of 5D3.

I only really use 2-3 AF points on a camera like the 5D , so as long as they are DEAD accurate and good in low light, i consider it to be a great AF camera!

In Australia the 5D III is selling for around $3800 plus or minus a hundred at legit Canon authorised retailers. Grey you can do much better. I'm glad I didn't have to wear that sort of cost.

It's possible that all 11 points are indeed cross-type, but only the center is f2.8 high precision cross-type.

It's also possible that there are numerous, non-selectable assist points in addition to the 11 that are selectable. For instance, the original 5D had 15 total points (9 selectable, 6 assist) even though the specs sheet only lists 9. I think it's very likely that there will be more than 11 total points on the 6D.

So it looks like this is going to be a real camera. But why did Canon develop another 35mm sensor for this? Should have just used the 5D3 or 5D2 sensor. Because there is no way this is going to finally be the miracle sensor that can match the Nikon sensors or else Canon will really have pissed off existing 5D3 and 1DX customers.

I also think the AF will likely be 11 x-type f.5/6 with the centre being the dual-x type f/2.8 like the centre 5 are on the 5D3.

Anyways, this camera looks like a bit of a dud even compared to the D600 but will wait for final official specs to see for sure. CR reports that 12AM EST tonight is the embargo end.

Another sensor is crazy.

TBH canon at the moment should just shut the sensor plant down and buy in sony expeed.

I hope the af specs are as above, even then its barely above the 650d.

With the 6d about to be unveiled by photokina I wonder when canon will discontinue the 5d2. I ask this since Nikon discontinued the d700 already.

Canon should already be doing that when they ramp out the 5D3 production.
