I get the sexy leg up.. lay on him kinda thing... but why? I mean it looks cool and they look good but it just seems a little forced IMO.

The set is nice for sure just seems a little contrived for my tastes.
A couple questions

Is this a normal engagement session for you?
How much of this stuff is your idea and how much of it is their idea?

I wish the first few photos were wider. Perhaps maybe use wider lens and show the rows of vines get smaller farther away a lot quicker. #4 from the bottom looks badly compressed.. not sure what is going on. I love the last one.

@hardlyboring - We generally take into account their ideas and ours, and give guidance then just sit back and capture the images. We don't do a lot of "ok, now lay on him and get "sexy"" type stuff. That was literally as it happened, and we had nothing to do with it. We took several frames of that, and they were laying like that kissing for awhile. Almost nothing you see was set up or contrived in this set. It was them doing what they feel comfortable with.

Long ago we saw a website of a photographer that theorized a "way" of shooting people in a more engaged and relaxed style that showed true passion and love. We utilize that theory on a lot of our work. For instance, we simply might say "talk to your gal about your first date" and we sit back and watch them laugh, smile, etc. when remembering that first date.

Here, they said "we want to be very sexy in some of these photos. We said, "ok, do whatever comes to mind" and we sat back and captured it. It was real, they were being very passionate.

@robin - Thank you for the pointer. Good call on that and will keep that in mind. Yea, #4 is strange, I'll have to go check that out. Thank you kindly, sir.

Cool
our approach is much the same during an engagement session.

If that is them then I would say fantastic. The images are nice I just rarely see people who actually are 100% natural rolling around in a vineyard you know.

Hahaha. For sure. They actually got pretty hammered on the wine, and told us halfway through that they did some shots before we started. I was surprised as well, and said "ok, well let's roll with it!" Fun people, and good times.

@robin - I went back and looked at #4 from bottom. Not sure what's up, but it's almost SOOC other than I did some d & b on it to bring them up a little. I also did some intensifying of the sky and ground, but otherwise, it's SOOC. Not sure what's up with that.

I like the set, interesting approach, something new and kinda refreshing here. Really good job. I'd say it would be cool even if it was your idea, and if they only drink beer

Did you mean fourth from the top? I did delete the vertical one with strange bottom area. :-)

First things first - please, please, please reconsider your logo/colors/border.

Get rid of 1. The lighting is bad and distracting. The random shafts of light do you no favors here not to mention make the "save the date" relatively unreadable. You could've turned everyone 90 degrees so that the lighting is back lighting them, but of course you lose the leading lines of the rows of greenery. That compromise is up to you, but I would've taken it, as I think there are some cool, less obvious compositions to be had when not using the rows. Great job getting low and not giving the typical standing perspective. Her expression here is TERRIBLE and not something I would consider usable. The guy appears to be walking on her (compositionally), so that doesn't work for me either.

2. Funny how waiting for better lighting can improve a picture so dramatically Much, much less awkward photo in terms of lighting, composition, expressions, etc... I can dig it. I wish they had a bit more breathing room on the left side of the image - their heads are a bit too close to the edge for me. On a more subjective level, this photo is kinda weird for me. I'm all for steaminess, but when I see this set up, I think cutesie/picnic, not sexytime. But that's just me.

3. Good stuff. Hard cropping decision here as you have to choose either cropping at his shoulders/her neck or his armpits/her shoulders ("proper" crop would be just below shoulders on both). Too much fill/clarity going on in this for me. Starting to get a bit of that slightly desaturated/HDRy look.

4. I like this. Good job mixing it up from the tight stuff. Same processing issues as 3. Tilt the camera down just a bit so that her legs/butt get further away from the edge (and thus less distorted).

5. Excellent. Lose the funky fake blurriness on the right side, or if that's real, stop down just a bit more. A little more contrast and you're set. Portfolio worthy.

6. Meh. It's a ring. I'm bored. show me something more creative.

7. Ditch it. Does nothing for me. No expressions, just kinda weird floatingness. Over saturated, slightly soft. Yes flare is nice, but only if it's in a nice photo.

8. Awesome scenery/framing and.... wasted. What are they doing? I'd like to see them on the left side of the frame, away from the tank. And walking away from the camera does nothing for me. Walking towards the camera would be great or interacting with each other. Also, there's the weird blur again. If you're blurring something in photoshop, you're doing it wrong

9. Chop off the left side. Yes, you'll lose half of the tank, but you'll get them out of the center. Or frame wider and get more scenery in the right side. Also, her leg is weird. That only really works if she's up against the wall. I would've waited for them to drop it.

10. Good. Like the concept behind this. Awesome connection/interaction. Get them out of the middle of the frame and include more scenery to the left. I'd like to see more light on them - preferably with an off camera flash, but a bump in exposure would work as well.

11. Great shot, sloppy processing.

12. Great shot, sloppy processing. Looks to me like you need to start using/learning off camera flash rather relying on your mediocre processing skills

13. Much stronger shot than 12 compositionally. LOVE her, wish he was more into it. Oh, and great shot, sloppy processing. Get your freaking flash on!

Hope that helps. Also, where was this shot? I'm from Chandler originally (actually have a wedding at the Phoenix Zoo next week).

Thx for critique. We use OCF on all shoots and the last three shots are all with OCF.
