Yes, it is strange, especially considering that Hasselblad has their own hot-shoe protocol on their MF cameras. Why they wouldn't want to include this in their own systems is beyond my comprehension. Current Hassy MF owners mi\ght want to include this in their equipment and sharing flash equipment might be a benefit to them. I would suggest laziness, and perhaps a complete focus on form rather than function. Or do they just think that current Hassy owner wouldn't touch this thing with a ten foot pole?

They probably got them for free. Sony is apparently changing to the standard shoe and has too many of the old one lying around in the factory. HB needs to save money somewhere, you know, after investing all their monies in Italian designers and precious metals.
