I plan to rent a D700 and a 70-200 VRII for an event I am shooting during the first week of September. I hope to do this through www.rentglass.com, but there is a chance that they will not be in stock when I am ready to order, so I want to have a backup.
Their prices and policies seem really good to me.. much cheaper than renting gear locally by a large margin. So, I'd like to find a backup location that is at least close to their weekly price.
I've used both Lensrentals.com and Borrowlenses.com, excellent service from both and you can reserve the items to ship when you need them, I suggest getting them a day or two before you need it, so you can familiarize yourself with them..
Lensrentals has been great. I forget the name of the lady who helped me with a few questions I had about an exotic lens, but she treated me like a friend. Couldn't be happier with the product or service.
I've only used LensRentals, once for a x100 to try out and most recently for a 300/2.8 and a 1.7x teleconverter. They did ask for verification the first time since I was creating a new account (secondary email confirmation), but everything went very smoothly.
I did look at other places when looking to rent the 300mm, but in the end LensRentals.com still had the best price.
What has so impressed me about Lens Rentals is there customer service. I get emails from real people on the cotton pickin' weekend I've sent back equipment early and get a prompt refund on the amount of time I didn't use I've extended time w/ no problems whatever. There Chat line is superb! So, while I've never used anybody else, for my buck, it's customer service that makes the deal. Maybe Nikon USA ought to talk to Lens Rentals about how to provide it. I'm sure Nikon USA would benefit from the consult.
