As sad as your story is it gives me a sad good feeling.

gilead, thanks so much -- and my heart goes to you. Needless to say, but spend as much time with him as you can. It's crazy, but you'll cherish these final weeks as much as any other times in your lives together.
As for my Mom, she's blind, fiercely independent, and really missing my Dad a lot. We used to talk once a week, but now it's part of my routine to call her on my way home from work each day. I know she looks forward to the calls,and it's really helped her.
