I am sorry for your loss Ron. These pictures are so packed with emotion I can barely look at them without being overwhelmed. These are truly something to be cherished. They serve as a poignant reminder of what matters most in life.

Be thankful your Dad did live a full life. It certainly looks like he left behind a wonderful legacy in his family.

Sincerest sympathies,

Russ

P.S. - by far the best photos I've seen on FM.

Hard to add anything that has not already been said. From what I can see you didn't need these photos to have cherished memories of your father - but they will be a blessing for you in your old age.

For some reason the word "respect" overwhelmed me as I looked at the photos. The respect his entire generation earned as they defended their country and people around the world. The personal respect for his service. The respect one has for such a good-looking, formidable young man who obviously cares about himself. The respect a man earns for keeping his sacred commitment to the same woman for 67 years. And of course the respect his family has for him at his bedside. You have captured this respect well - which shows you have inherited it from your father. Well done, sir.

Again, I'm just overwhelmed and humbled by the response from each of you. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I'm going to make sure my sister can see this.

Powerful, emotional images. Sorry for your loss, but I agree with Robin, this is a life worth celebrating. Your Dad and his buddies looked like a bunch of ass kickers in the 40s - like they could take on the world (which they pretty much did). Your Dad had movie star looks, too - very handsome. That photo of them in the bar - with your Dad eyeing his buddy - is fantastic.

My condolences go out to you and your family. I hope your Mom is getting through this okay.

Powerful, powerful story and images. It certainly made me tear up. You dad looks like a great guy who obviously loved his family. I feel for you, your Mother and family. My father is 96 so this also hits home.

Maybe this will help ease some of the pain . . it brought some peace for me in dealing with a death . . .

This parable was found on the body of an American soldier, Col. David Marcus . . . .

"I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails in the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until, at length, she is only a ribbon of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, 'There! She's gone!'

Gone Where? Gone from my sight.--that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her, and just at the moment when someone at my side says, 'There! She's gone!'...there are other voices ready to take up the glad shout, 'There! She comes!' And that is dying."

Wonderful series Ron. Thanks for sharing that with us. Our condolences.

My father in law passed away 4 weeks ago at the the age of 88. We were fortunate enough have a short time at home with hospice care, so he passed at home with his family around him. I only wish I had photographed it as well as you have.

Very sorry for your loss, went through the same with my mom just before xmas last year. You captured some great moments that will be with you forever. It's heartwarming to see he had his loving family with him till the end. God bless you all for being there for him.

I have seen this thread pop up on the FM home page for a few days now and frankly I was afraid to look. I take a lot of photos of my family, it is easy now because everyone is generally happy and well. I hope I have the courage to continue taking photos as you have when the occasion isn't so benign.

Ron,

You have touched my heart in an amazing way. I too just lost my Dad on 7/22. I got to spend some quality time with my Dad and like you always thought of him as invincible and my hero.

Thank You for this post.

Joe

I love number 4.

Friscoron, I feel your pain, my dad died in 2006, it was the hardest day of my life, I still remember him every single day and when my first son was born, I cried and cried because he didn't get to see my son.

uufff, when I saw your post I was hesitant to read it, now I have tears once again.
