I still have my EOS IX APS. Beautiful little camera with stainless steel body panels. Terrible VF: the worse I have ever used in a SLR.
Yeah the Viewfinder wasn't great, but it was a viewfinder. Wouldn't mind an EVF done right.

Anyone who treats a camera as a fashion accessory is a tool and poseur. Who cares what it *looks* like so long as it's functional?
My thoughts... it looks like a stripped down P&S with a big, fat lens mount. Interesting idea to keep it so small. EF lenses are sure going to look wonky on this.
Sorry dude, not buying this. Not only does it NEED to have good specs, it needs to look good. This design is MEH. Take the latest MacBook Pros for example - slick power, slick design. People will pay for a good looking camera that works well.

cameras are suppose to look good?
if you're modelling for canon i suppose. the rest of us will duct tape our logos and use them, although ymmv

Great another thing to buy
I'll hold of 'cause the M43 world will have more variety of lenses and I speculate the mirrorless camera will have IQ along the same line as my Oly OM-D.

As a NEX user I can say that the lack of viewfinder and size will not be problems for most people. This is not aimed primarily at pro dslr users (nor should it be) but it can still have great IQ. I suggest we all wait and see instead of praising or bashing it based on rank speculation.
By the by, for tripod shooting, the NEX beats an optical viewfinder 9 of 10 times easy.

Don't see too many of the boxy Pentax K-01 MILC out there, just those pretty Oly 4/3 in red and white. Must be a lot of caring people or "tools" as you term them.

all pretty much as I expected (new lens mount, APS-C, no VF etc.) but I'm fascinated to find out how much Canon plans to charge for this. I would not be surprised (though disappointed) if it's more expensive than the competition.
If it's reasonably priced, has a high-def EVF accessory (that doesn't cost an arm and leg), and doesn't sacrifice still IQ for video features, I'm definitely interested

I'll hazard a guess that we (full size body users ) will not see a FF mirror-less that we can like until Sony unveils the successor to the a900, the much anticipated a99! Until then they all be mostly toyish.
The FF a99 will have the same or an even better sensor than Nikon's D800, will have all the other Sony frills including sensor-based-stabilization, 10+ FPS, maybe a touch-tilt LCD, reasonable AF and perhaps the best EVF yet known to man...but few lens options at reasonable prices.

Of course, the only NEX I have considered is the NEX-7, with the viewfinder. Even the crappy viewfinder on my GF-1 is better then focusing looking at the back LCD.

Let's see: (1) Compatible with EF mount? No. (2) Significantly larger sensor? Unclear, but most likely not. (3) OVF or EVF? No. (4) Price? ?? (5) Physical size, i.e. fits in pocket? Not definitive, but likely No. (6) Some sort of amazing IQ in small format? ?? (I can't imagine what it would take to put FF in a compact mirror-less camera.)
So based upon rumor I get 4 no's and 2 ?. Having just purchased a Panny GX1with kit lens for <$500USD, I'm not all that worried that I'll regret it. Seems as if Canon is yet again, late to the game and not impressive. A company can only trade on the prestige of its name for so long (Leica excepted . Eventually it has to provide a compelling reason for new users to sign on and current users to stay with the brand. Canon has recently produced 2 nice - though maybe not compelling - new models at extreme price points. Oh, I forgot the Ti4/6XXD. Anything compelling about it?
Canon is fun (in a sick sort of way) to watch as it fumbles away its massive sales lead to not only Nikon but upstarts like Sony and Oly. As the old Laugh-in used to close: "Interesting, but not very funny."
