A large, powerful eagle that may take small prey to the size of small antelopes. This one hasn't grown into its adult plumage with dark feathers around the head. But still seeing a juvi was quite a thrill. The first was in a copse of trees and the second after it flew onto a more open perch. Each had its own exposure issues and these were taken before I had explored the virtues of manual exposure.
I will also post an adult for comparison.

That's quite the handsome bird Eric! #2 for me.
I checked wiki and it would seem that these guys are even bigger than the Bald Eagle, whoa... must be something to see in flight.

About the branches being "in the way": perhaps from a bird portrait POV it's not a good thing. But to me, most portraits of animals AND people are less interesting than the same subject surrounded in part by something environmental. I prefer the realism.

Yes, these are very big and powerful eagles. I have seen them a few times but my in flight shots suck even by my meager standards. I had one fly from a tree, over my head and somehow the camera never locked on...it was an awesome but totally out of focus image )

Yes it is quite impressive and realize it takes prey as large as an antelope of 40 lbs. or so....I guess not unlike a Golden Eagle. I have seen it feeding on a guinea fowl so it appears it likes both venison and bush chicken.
