p.1 #1 · How to post larger than the 1024x size from Flickr?

I've seen some posts at 1200x and 1600x from flickr users but when I use the share link on flicker all I see are various sizes up to 1024x or original and none of the larger between sizes.

Never mind. I just found out how. You DON'T use their share button. You just hover over the image and select the size you want and then use right click to use the web browser to copy image URL to copy and paste buffer.

Although I only saw 1600x nothing inbetween 1024 and 1600x.

Posting images that big is an inconvenience for a lot of viewers. That's not what you want when you are trying to get people to look at your stuff. But, on flikr, I guess it doesn't matter.

OTOH, postage stamp-sized 640x400 doesn't look like much on a 1920x1200 monitor and even 800x600 looks weak, you lose so much impact of being enveloped by the image and for some images, where they are about interesting fine textures and details, it tends to get lost so something 1024x or 1200x or 1400x can be much nicer.

But not everyone has a 1920 X 1200 screen to view your photos on.

Always cater to the lowest common denominator. At the very least post the smaller size and have it link to the hi-res version. I get turned off by gigantic photos, unless I specifically want to view them that way. I suspect I am not alone.

I suppose.

OTOH it gets tiresome when everyone does that and then anyone with a 1400x or 1600x or 1920x or larger monitor sees little postage stamps images that don't look like much and when some posts 640x for everything it's gets frustrating coming from the other side of it.

Certainly some 1200x posting doesn't seem that out of hand in this day and age when 1024x768 monitors are now definitely starting to become the exception.

When I am browsing through a thread and some posts anything over approx. 1000 pixels, I automatically just skip it and go to the next post. It irritates me that some aren't considerate of others.

I've been posting and moderating for nearly 10 years. I limit my widths to about 940 or less as a courtesy and they are just fine. It's rude to put up something over 1000. Most other image sites have restrictions to support this behavior.

OTOH if you do have a larger monitor it is so refreshing to not be punished the opposite way. So if a few people post larger hey maybe it is bad for the few still on 1024 or smaller monitors but it's great for the rest to at least now and then see a photos done justice, just as for the few who post at like 640x size it's awful for those with large monitors and fine for ones at 800x600 or 1024x768. You could almost also say it is rude to post at 500-700x size because it looks so small on most monitors and like an absolute postage stamp on a retina macbook (although you could view in dbl scale on that).

Anyway, maybe it's not quite time yet for larger than 800-1000x across in general, but that time must be getting close. Once 160x200 was standard size for a color image posting. Then 320x200. Then 640x400. Then 800x600....
