I just picked mine up from the local camera store... LOVE IT!!!! The size, the smooth quiet focusing, f2.8 is plenty fast enough for a walkaround lens... I think this is going to be good!

I think its great considering the price. Or maybe Canon has just brainwashed me lately to think that anything less than $800 is a bargain!

Since I have the 35f2 - my oldest still active lens - I'll wait until I can use the Digital Picture comparator to see the differences before I decide.
I've been playing with both this morning, and thought I'd do a little measurebation with a lens chart. But then I figured people would just criticize my technique, and I don't have the $10,000 setup thedigitalpicture dude has.

Well, even his measurements get criticized. But I and probably others would be interested in your impressions. I really like the 35 mm FOV on FF and wonder how much that would change with 40. I guess I could just use a zoom to find out now that I think about it
Always had the 50/1.8. Bought the 35/2 a couple months ago (used) out of curiosity. Only one will actually be kept permanently once I'm done playing.
I buy a lot of lenses on eBay, play with them, and sell them on Amazon for an essentially free rental. It feeds my gear curiosity. When it comes down to it, there's only about 2 or 3 lenses I can justify keeping.

interesting, not a crazy price either and not that much larger
i still bet if they made an f/2.8 that it would peak at greater center and edge sharpness than that f/2 copy does, but maybe they can pull it off
at least for canon lenses though they seem to be able to make their slower lenses either sharper or similar sharpness and yet using much less fancy glass
I am glad that all the naysayers about this lens were proven wrong.
I continue to be surprised by the numbers of people who are so quick to criticize a product before it is even released based on specs or appearance alone.
I preordered one of these guys from B&H. It has yet to ship for some reason. I added the hood to the order and it's saying "Backordered" on their site so I'm guessing they'll just hold my order until it's all there. I tried calling to get them to cancel the hood and just send the lens, but haven't had any luck yet.
Glad to see such promising samples from this lens. I'm planning on just gluing it to my old 5Dc and making that my walk-around camera for travel, etc. Although I do love the look of it on that EOS 3 up there... Hmmmmm. Maybe I can convince the wife that I need another 35mm body.
