We were driving around mid-day on Orcas Island (WA), and surprised these two sharing a meal (a recently-killed deer, by the side of the road). They abandoned their meal for a nearby tree; we stopped just in time to catch them flying away (showing their disgust at our intrusion). I was pleased by the ability of the 5D3 to keep focus as the birds flew right by me.
The sun on the eagle's neck, together with the dark brown underside in the shade, made for too much dynamic range for the chip, but I like them anyway.
Douter, the birds were quite close (probably less than 20 feet away), in a fairly dense canopy. Fortunately (or unfortunately, for dynamic range), the sun was getting through the very top; I like the sun on the eagle's tail.
