I'm not trying to compete with the amazing images on this thread, but am impressed with the image performance of the 36MP sensor. Here is one from this morning while I was fine tuning the AF. This is the old film era AF lens, and it holds up pretty well wide open (small aperture, admittedly).
I got out today with some much appreciated sun after several days of clouds and rain. What's up with that?
While playing indoors over those rainy days, I started running into some of the camera's quirks and problems with LV and dim subjects, and now getting some better understanding of those issues from snapsy on a different thread on this forum. I appreciate the help and experienced users here.
I will say that I really like the in-viewfinder level indicators. Love them for architectural use hand held. Exposure is much better than the LCD would have me believe, so I'm coming to trust that if I have ANY decent exposure showing on camera back, it will look great on the computer. The files respond really well to LR tweaks without resorting to any phony looking tone mapping or HDR -- happy about that too.
The 180/2.8 ais is a gem of a lens. Its a classic. I seldom use mine just because I have zoom covering the focal. But it puts a smile on my face each time i use it.

great images ! Love the last one in particular
I agree. That last shot looks fantastic, bordering on other-worldly. Nice shots, John.
I was working today to try to calculate exact focusing points on the Rokinon 14/2.8 that arrived late yesterday. Adorama is/was clearing out "demos" and selling for the crazy price of $216 + shipping. I need a UWA, and this will do for a while.
Focus is way off from the lens markings -- no news to me, as I also own one for Canon EF mount. Almost got it figured out, but still needs a bit of work. Otherwise, images are good from in all corners and only the "normal" curvature of field and mustache distortion.
Nikon doesn't have a 14mm setting in its non-CPU registry, so this is magically a 13mm!
(Nikon D800 LV is SUCH a pain in the ass -- almost totally unusable for any critical viewing or manual focusing, as I needed today. Aaarrrrg!)
