Thanks. There's plenty more from where that came from. I've been very impressed with the results from this lens, even when I slightly miss perfect focus. Although the lens isn't the fastest AF lens I've ever used, I'm definitely chalking up most of the missed shots to my general infamiliarity with the finer intricacies of the D700's AF system:
Great photos Alan. I read your comments on the MFNG thread about how having AF lenses available keeps Nikki involved with photography. My partner will grudgingly use an MF lens but she always asks me to bring an AF lens so she can shoot more comfortably. It makes good sense and doubtless as your munchkin gets bigger and starts running around, you'll be very happy to have AF lenses that you enjoy using. I guess the only thing that ultimately matters is that we lift the camera to our eye and take photos... Wonderful work by both of you. I love that first one. You look like a very happy dad. That's great!
I am so jealous! My 85 1.8g is set to arrive on Thursday from B&H. I already have a couple "on standby" for a shoot this weekend to test it out. I will be shooting my niece's wedding in a few weeks, and can't wait to get this lens on my D7K. I'll post my own samples hopefully this weekend. Happy 4th, everyone!
I wish I could have found one locally. We have 2 camera stores in the Tampa Bay area, and neither of them have the lens. I would have loved to support the local camera shops, as I know that competition with online stores/eBay have decimated the mom-n-pop stores in recent years. But, I couldn't wait, as neither know when they will get one in stock and I need to get comfortable with this lens, as I'll be using it for my niece's wedding in a few weeks.
In spite of the title this turned into a great display of 85 f1.8G images - keep them coming!
I'm rolling with the Sigma 85 f1.4 at the moment but this looks like a great lens for less money. I will say though this is the first Sigma I actually might keep, the new regular finish (vs the crispy crinkle) and lighting fast AF is impressive.
You know, this is why I like FM. One person says "this lens sucks" and others chime in, but with contrarian proof. Instead of mudslinging and flamewars.
Great images! I love the ones of the kids on the swings, that really demonstrates at least the ability of the lens to focus rather quickly. If tomorrow weren't a holiday, mine would arrive then, but alas, I must wait another day. Oh well, at least I'm off until Monday so hopefully I can put it through it's paces. I already told my son to inform his g/f that we were going to take some photos this weekend (like it or not!).

Not SOOC (sorry Monkey!) but I ran the lens through its paces at my last shoot and I must say Im very happy
In that second picture bokeh CA is pretty obvious, not good.
After what seemed like an eternity this morning, UPS finally arrived with my 85 1.8G. Took a couple of shots in the back yard, and here is one of the images from that
I love mine, sharp, lightweight, accurate focus, and as far as bokeh goes it isn't the 200/2 but it's not as bad as you may think - actually quite good under the right circumstances.
