I spent an hour or so at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson this morning. This plane reminded me of Moby Dick. I hope it meets the assignment. Officially it's the NASA Super Guppy.

Yes indeed. I guess all the electronics don't weigh all that much.

Great capture. Almost looks like a combination blimp/plane.

Thanks Pete. I would almost swear I could hear "Look sharp, all of ye! There are whales here-abouts" I think Capt Ahab was in his Stealth whaler cruising overhead. For some reason my sensor couldn't record it's image.

Thanks Mark. I've lived in Tucson since 1968 and I have driven past the Pima Air Museum hundreds of times and thought,"I should see that place sometime." Well, this assignment prodded me to action There were m any aviation oddities, especially in the various enclosed hangars.

Thanks Birdie, I had a hard time selecting which plane to submit. There were so many choices but this one seemed about the oddest one.

That's one aspect of the WA that I look forward to each week. Being forced to do something you wouldn't normally do is a good thing. (Well, most of the time it's good )

After learning a bit more about this plane, I retract that statement This monster could cruise at 285 mph carrying 40,000lbs of Apollo rocket stages from California to Florida. Cockpit pressurization allowed it cruise at altitudes up to 25,000 ft to avoid bad weather. It also had a weird way of taking off. It lifted off the rear wheels first and then the nose wheels.
