p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · #492 Rattlesnake bridge in Tucson

A 280 foot pedestrian and cyclist bridge spans a busy street in downtown Tucson. Since I couldn't get the head and rattle in one photo, I chopped them off and I'm showing the body. Sort of like many people do when encountering a live rattlesnake. If you would like to see the excised body parts check them out in the Critiques board. One thing can be said about this bridge, it is unique.

Had to go read the other thread. Cool bridge but definitely a challenge as you outline in the other thread.

I like seeing things like this, it shows that someone, somewhere, still cares about good design, and having a little fun. I like your presentation of this unique structure.

Thanks Travis, Almost every year this bridge is voted,"Best Contemporary Architecture" by readers of the Tucson Weekly. It was designed by local artist Simon Donovan. Small children have a blast as they enter the wide jaws, go down the belly of the beast and are pooped out the tail. As they leave a motion detector sets off a surprise rattle. It is definitely a fun trip.

Nice and very unique entry Norm. It's amazing how much it really looks like a snake. I think you got the best vantage point to show off the biggest part of the structure.

When was it built? I can only hope that it was after 2009...so that I am not disappointed I did not go see it when I was in Tuscon.

Travis, You'll just have to returned to Tucson. It was built on 2002.

Thanks Norm. It also has a surprise for you as you pass through the other end.
