Our town does a monthly 1st Friday Art Walk where you can view the work of local artisans in the local galleries and visit with your friends and neighbors. I caught this Street Scape of our local Astronomy Group and took this image of a child enjoying his first view of Jupiter tonight. Thanks for looking, Barbara

That's really cool Barb. What a telescope! It's a warm scene with the scope being shared like this.

Thanks Roberta, glad you like the shot.

Mark, it's a wonderful telescope which is handmade by the gentlemen you see standing behind the boy. It took him 13 years to build the scope and it is a beautiful work of art. The other side of the scope shows working gears and there is a large weight which drops, absolutely gorgeous. I like to go there when it's still light out and take macro shots of the telescope. There were 3 scopes set up last night for viewing, one pointed at the Moon, another at Venus and this scope which was looking at Jupiter. There is usually a Solar Telescope which allows for safely viewing the sun but the gentlemen who brings the solar scope is out of town.

That is a really nice image, Barbara. Lovely colours and a great pose.

From an astronomer's point of view, it's a shame that the town/city lights pollute the air and spoil what only a true black cloudless night can bring.

That's a great story! I'd love to have the chance to look through one like that.

Well captured, too! Thank you!

Thanks Pete. The group sets up and while not being the darkest location, a really good view of the planets and moon is available for people who would otherwise never have an opportunity to view the night sky and see the planets with their respective moons. An Astronomer always want dark clear skies something thats not always possible in Oregon. I happen to live 30 minutes outside of town and the skies are very dark and we get very good viewing. Too bad I am not big into Astronomy.

Bob, glad you like the story. I enjoy looking through the telescopes, for me it brings the world into perspective. On your travels, stop by Grants Pass, Oregon, they always hold 1st Friday on the 1st Friday of each month. It happens 11 months of the year but they don't hold one in December. You can gaze at the world through that very telescope and enjoy it's beauty up close and personal. It's a wonderful experience
