p.3 #1 · Where is D4x?

wil_ret wrote:
I think the D4x will have the on/off AA filter switch.
Now that would be nice?

Also, all the people I know that are getting the grip for it for better hand holding.

O.K the landscape boys don't need the grip, hence the term shooting landscape.

I doubt they would make a model with a switch actuated AA filter... its a physical element which would mean the shutter box would need to some how accommodate a sliding/flipping screen.... FX sensors are already pretty big within the body, now imagine one that needs even more space... not impossible but highly unlikely.

That said, Im not sure why everyone is complaining about a "pro" body d800(d4x). Based on my experience with the d700 and d3s, their build quality is almost the same. All the important bits are exactly the same between the d4 and d800.... viewfinder, af system, and metering. The only real differences are the backlight buttons, fps, iso performance and mp .... and obviously using the d3s/d3x as examples, the only changes you can realistically expect between the d800 and d4x would be the body features since the sensor wont have the same low light and allow for a fast burst....

could you really justfy spending 3000-4000 to add on backight buttons and a vertical grip?

What is possible too,is that the D4x will be $1k more than the D4.

That's where Nikon stuffed up last time, making the D3x $3K more than the D3

At lot of people complained about that.

Complete crap.
Look what Nikon did with the D3?
A D3x.
It's not that expensive for Nikon to mount a different sensor in the D4.

I prefer the pro bodies like the D4 and there are plenty of pros like me.

there was not really huge sales of D3x. It just makes no sense to lug around pro body in studio when high capacity accu or super duper weather sealing is not needed.
I would guess that most pros wants smaller bodies, not bigger.

I know lot's of pros that lug around a Hassy or Phase for that matter.

Studio work is mainly shot in portrait form, that why Nikon has a grip for the D800.

Why does it cost $600? Because Nikon knows that most shooters will buy one.

I hear a lot of people complaining about the weight of the D3x.

I've been around for quite a few years and lugged around Crown 4x5 and film packs (yes, I am old).

My F2AS Photomic weighed 31 ounces, just short of 2 pounds without any lens.

The D3x weighs 43 ounces, which includes a motor drive and LCD screen.

I really can't see where all the weight complaints come from - because I can't remember any of the news photogs complaining about camera weight in the '60s, '70s or '80s.

Maybe you younger guys need to start drinking more beer

Must be that "down under" lovely life mate. And all that sunshine.

And, hopefully you'll never need one - but watch your health !

well lugging arrund hassy or mamiya is worth it because there is no option. why would i carry big camera when smaller one does the same?

yes many will buy, but because it would still be cheaper then D4x and gives them option to NOT use it when not needed.

Aheem, I have an RZ, and it rides with me. Have not purchased a DB for it yet, but the film capture puts any D700 capture to shame, all things equal. And, enlargements from the RZ are remarkable.

I think the D4x is gone..To me it looks like nikon and canon are going the same route to get rid of there high megapixel FF pro camera and make there sports cam the flag ship and the 5d and now d800 the high megapixel camera..

The D4x may be gone for another kind of high MP solution...

Time will see...

I can see wanting battery and exact interface compatibility with a D4.

Even then I'd be there's a higher number of studio, portrait, fashion, etc... photographers that are perfectly happy with a $3k body that has great features versus an $8K camera that's the pinnacle of what Nikon can do at the time.

It may just no longer be cost effective for Nikon to develop such a beast. I mean look at the last several generations giant leaps in terms of IQ. The D3 was a revelation, the D3x was class leading, it's ostensibly been outdone by a $3k body
...Show more

I agree totally with you Herb and Jammy. Also the market for a D4X is so tiny, Nikon has covered their bases pretty well with this new release.

All Nikon has to do stick a larger sensor in the D4 and charge $1000 more.

The d4 is selling like hotcakes, not like the D800,but that's understandable.

Nikon Sendai is producing 30,000 D800 and 5,000 D4 cameras per month.

By the end of this year there will be a D4x.

Of not ,so be it?

Amen.
But seriously there has to be one and I'll be first one to buy it. If not, I'll get the D4 and shot more panos. I'm currently using D7000 and on average 5 images (shot vertically of course) give me images of about 44MP in resolution. And both D7000 and D4 have 16MP sensors.
What I like so much about the D4 is that you can very easily transfer wirelessly images to your laptop or iPad. And, the 3rd generation iPad is coming with USB (so you can connect your external drive if more memory in needed) and the retina screen. This year should be a good year for Apple and Nikon.
