p.5 #1 · 5Dx in the wild?

It needs 8fps minimum. D700 did 8fps almost 4yrs ago @ 12.1MP. It should be easy for Canon to do 18MP @ 8fps in 2012.

But it did need the battery grip for the 8fps, otherwise it was 5fps.

As I said I think 8fps should be ok as it won't step on the 1D X toes and digic V is more than fast enough.

I would be a little disappointed if the 5D III was 18MP and would at least like to see it stay at 21MP or preferably with a slight bump to 24MP. However, I would still buy one if it is indeed 18MP, as the other features more than make up for a very slight resolution loss.

Can't see them releasing another FF with much higher resolution unless they do release a 3 series. Canon would be aware that the D800 will be 36MP and either have drawn a line in the sand on MP and will head down a different path like with the 1D X or the rumoured specs are way off.

I would buy two battery grips and stack them if it made the 5D do 8fps I don't think it would step on the 1DX toes no matter how close the performance is - they are two different markets.

Not for fact, but some interesting specs I got:

- 18,1-Megapixel full frame -CMOS-sensor
- 6 fps
- 100% viewfinder
- 100.000 pixel RGB AE
- iFCL
- 100-51200 ISO
- 19 cross type AF-system
- Full-HD EOS-movie (1080p)
- DIGIC 5+ processor, DIGIC 4 co-processor
- 3,2 inch Clear View II LCD 1040k dots
- mini HDMI
- LP-E6 1800mAh
- 2899$ intro

I will do some more research if I can get this confirmed

Doesn't sound bad at all, especially if the digi 4 co processor hints at something between 7D and 1DX AF with more towards 1DX!

Only thing it lacks is effective reach and max detail, a shame, but hey that is what the 5DX Mark II is for in a few years. For now we get it all but but detail and reach and in 2015-2016 we get it all.

These specs would make me happy indeed.
This would basically be the long awaited digital version of the EOS 3!

I'd for sure be down trading away my 5D2 for this beast and sticking with Canon.

Of course sure they could drive 30MP and that would be nice but I think they decided on 18MP for 1DX and having to fab and design a whole new sensor for 5DX would cost too much and raise the price more than lost sales I guess. The Cinema EOS DSLR doing 4k video might mean it needs 32MP sensor for 4x4 combines so that might be the high MP intro and perhaps a 1DXH as well for 2013? Then 5DX2 in 2015 with 6fps, top pro AF, 32MP, etc. Then 2018 8fps, even topper AF, etc.

I do understand those wanting more max detail/reach in it, I would too, but it seems the PJ crowd wanted to top out at 18MP and they didn't want to yet risk $ on second sensor design and also cost more 1DX sales, maybe too much losses in that. If demand is extreme they might whip out a 5DXH for 2013 though, at a bit of a price premium, maybe $1000 over the 5DX.

EDIT: after seeing the D800 these specs look a bit weak

Yes indeed. If that is it then all of our rants filling up the messages boards and my and others annoying whining maybe actually did pay off.

Those really would be some nice specs, assuming can can read the best into them.

EDIT: seeing the Nikon D800 it seems like they listened even more though!

I think I'd live with 6.3 and have them give us full on pro AF and the rest than have them go 8fps and do more crippling. But if it is 8 then . Not sure they would go quite that far, since 8 gets to be enough for many serious sports pros while 6.3 wouldn't hurt the 1DX any. But we will see.

Canon will need to release two bodies in order to stop all the whining. There are clearly two large markets Canon needs to cover - one market wants the body being discussed in this thread (3DX), and the other camp wants high MP body (Fred Miranda, David Baldwin, Dan Mitchell, Fraga, etc.) for landscape/architecture (5DX).

This info is nothing new, it's all in this poll and it's hard to argue with.
https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1076256

If Canon covered both of these markets most of the negativity in the Canon forums would disappear overnight. Perhaps the tide would turn back again to more Nikon users moving to Canon again as it was before the D3/D700.

Canon employee field-testing new gears!! Cool.

What are the odds that one of those mystery cameras(or a lens) get left behind in the coffee shop accidentally by a Canon employee like those from Apple did with their pesky new iphones?

It could happen. A friend of mine left his 5D mk2 in a bar. Went back 2 hours later it was gone.

Just noticed that. Likely for those more into its video capabilities.

I like my 5D mk2. And introducing movie capability into DSLR's is cool and nifty. But when they start designing the whole thing around a novelty feature it's kind of ridiculous. Want to be a filmmaker, buy a movie camera.

Hell! What is going on here?
We saw a new body and suddenly there are given specs?
It (the camera) looks great, yes. But lets wait!

Imo the flaggship lines never made money for the manufactureres (except Leica and I really do not know, why). They are bread and butter. They bring back the money for development (in some cases). What they do is making a mind. And they generate big sales numbers in the real market. That is consumer.
Do you really belive Nikon would still exist in selling D3Xs and D3s? Never!
Does one here believe that Canon as a photo gear manufacturer would pay it´s costs with Ds? I do not think so. Imo the Dx0s and Dxx0s make the money.
The unbelieveable and unexpected success of the 5D, 5D MK II and 7D opens Canon to the idea that Ds are nioce, but not the market, they go for.
5D MK II outsaled any D1 s numbers. IQ was even better. You think that was an accident? I do not. They saw they can sell huge numbers and even Pro Studio shooters are happy. That is why they merged the 1 series. There is no need for two expensive bodies. That did not make sales.

Look at the picture. An 5000 - 10.000$ lens is attached to an 6.800 or maybe 3500$ body. Even here we find hundrets of "fanboys" purchasing a 2000$ lens (of course the best one ) can get to shoot with a 600-2000 € body.
THIS is making money.

In the last 4 years Canon sold 20 million EOS DSLRs. What do you think, how many "1"s it has been? 1 Million? 500.000? 250.000? They sold 70 Million lenses in less then 25 years. What do you think why Nikon went the way to offer Pro cameras at consumer prices? They where successful with it. In big numbers. I guess there come 50 (or even more) sold D700 to one D3. That means just huge profit for the same technologie.
Canon is not dump. A 1D X is for pro shooters. They need it now. And they do not think about shitty $ 6.800. Like we do. They own and have to use and ake money with lenses for about $ 20 - 50k. They do and sell pictures as a job. If they can do it with a body half the price they say "thankx" and buy it. The new (I guess 5D X) will be the all in one for con- and prosumers and a whole bunch of Pros, too. :-)

WOW!

... and MA. But costing less than 2000$

Apart from launching a pro successor of 5D II, it’s time for an amateur FF body...a revolutionary step something like Canon took while introducing 300D.

That's the 5Dc. Seriously if you want to keep all the stuff in a 600D, but combined with a FF it's a 5D II. What could they leave out - and no it won't ever be video.

5Dc- with how many shutter counts? All amateurs may not be interested in a second hand purchase.
