p.30 #1 · 5Dx in the wild?

@ M VERS
I never said something else than that Nikon is great in doing cameras. I said really often I am unhappy, that they do nothing I need/want. D700 at 18-21 MP would have been a change cause for me (at least using both, Canon and Nikon). It is just that they where 3 years late and brough a competitor against 5D when that already ran out.

Doing what is unbelieveable silly?

Lokking for what I need and beeing unhappy Nikon does not produce this?
I am happy for any Nikon shooter who is happy with his gear. I just can not see Nikon is fullfilling my needs. Is it silly, to decide, Nikon is not my brand?

I am waiting for usable ISO 25k. both new Nikons again are stuck below that. Is it really silly to say, Nikon does not deliver what I wish, so it would be the wrong choice? What is so unbelieveable silly for you in saying: "No, not mine!"?

you have no idea what the ACTUAL MP will be in the 5d3' following Canon's recent trend in the past I would expect it to be in the 30-35MP range:

PRO EVOLUTION (moderate increases):
1d evolution (1dx is new line)
1d2 8MP -> 1d3 12MP -> 1d4 16MP
1ds evolution (1dx is a new line)
1ds 11MP -> 1ds2 16MP -> 1ds3 -> 21MP

Recent trend in the past, 1D X would have gone up to 24-28. Did it?

No, It stucked at what most pros need and instead went up to ISO 50K and better IQ.
I think their is a concept behind this. And I HOPE this concept will have priority in the 5ths follow up, too.

5d evolution (more aggressive increases)
5d 12MP -> 5d2 21MP -> 5d3 ?

This...

Go and have a view at Nikonians here. They think, it was over time for Nikon, doing something. But not a 36MP D800. It will not sell successful. It will just bring 36 MP to the consumer market. And the price of the (really good) D3s down to its worth (about $ 2.500). 24 MP at ISO 25k would have made them kings. With D800 and this D4 try of a 1D X copy they will become extinct.

...and it is only one example.

Let's face, based on specs, Nikon has produced an exceptional camera that will be very attractive to many users - not all, but many. What's not to like about that? It gives users options and encourages Canon to build something even better. That seems like a winning combination for consumers to me.

I can understand a photographer being a fan of a particular set of equipment, but I can't even begin to comprehend why so many folks on these forums are fans of a company. It is universally recognized in the real world that both Canon and Nikon make great stuff. When they compete, we all benefit. I frequently see threads that are about the profitability or marketing stratagies, etc of these companies. I never realized that there so many frustrated wanabe photo industry executives who have missed their true calling in life. To each his own?

It's no different than unix vs windows, vi vs emacs, etc - photo geeks don't play sports so our "team" is our favorite brand

+1, we now have some hope to get some real (not fake like always) bodies for our money from Canon

it's not that people are frustrated wannabe photo execs they are just trying to suggest that maybe Canon doesn't have to do this and that they are doing to do as well and might well have done even better had they given us more and that it isn;t so insanely crazy to expect this or that in a certain body, etc.

I think that your team analogy makes a lot of sense as an explanation. After all,we tend to see many things like politics and war in terms of winning and loosing. This isn't healthy but it is
truly reflective of our society.

Honestly, my computer will be happy if I go up to 22 MP instead of 36MP, and my short timed temper too.

I think I will keep my old 5D as a backup but this 5DX just sounds like a fantastic imaging tool, just hope it is as clean as my 5D at ISO 100 and at least 2 stops better at high ISO so I could use ISO 1600 the way I use ISO 400 or ISO 6400 like I actually do with ISO 1600.

The double SD+CF card slots will be good if you can put videos in one and pictures in the other. or RAW in one and JPEG separately, etc...
