p.2 #1 · Is there a good printer for under $700?

I just purchased the Pixma 9000 and I'm very satisfied with it. I guess I'll have to try and learn how to refill at some point

Thanks for all the comments. I am leaning toward the Canon. What is the difference between the 9500 MK II and the 9000. Looks like ink type. Is there more?

Such a printer does not exist. The smaller and cheaper the printer the smaller the ink cartridges and the more you pay per print. With Epson the cost of ink for a 2XXX printer is double that of a 3XXX printer.

The only way to get around clogged inkjet heads from infrequent use is to buy a dyesub or laserjet printer. I am moving to a color laserjet for graphics work and going to be sending all my pictures to WHCC for prints.

Low end inket printers on a dollars per print are the most expensive way to go and hard to justify whether doing a few or many prints. Even using the printers at Costco with the Dry Creek profiles makes a lot more sense unless you are big into B&W in which case I would use a lab that specializes in silver based prints.
