I am now in the middle of my mid life crisis which has expressed itself in part in the rather muted form of switching from PCs to MAC. My latest MacBook Pro is running Lion. One of the few quirks to iron out is here on FM. I cannot get the emoticons (i think that is what they are called) to show. Posting, like I am doing here, works, but I cannot attach those funny little guys. While I understand that of all the problems in the world, this is not very high up on the list, but any fix suggestions would be appreciated (insert smily face here) See what I mean?

Emoticons are not an OS feature, they're a feature of the board. What operating system you use should have no effect on your ability to use emoticons in this forum.

Have you tried both clicking on the specific emoticons to the right of the reply both and clicked the plus sign to make sure you've got the symbols right?

And now it is working....and I didn't do anything differently.

You can select them from the panel or use the codes once learned. Are you seeing the text rather than the image?
