Heyas Mark, really nice shot and interesting take on the theme.

My only comment would be that the focus is on the hair/eyelashes of her furthest eye.

(I always get it wrong which is why I tend to notice/be fussy about that kind of thing )

I really like this Mark. Composition, lighting and especially the look in her eye. I hadn't actually noticed the focus until Craig pointed it out but now that he has I can't help but notice, arghh. If the main eye was pin sharp I'd give this shot a 10! Beautiful girl btw. :-)

Hey, thanks guys. I realized after the shoot that the focus was off a bit, but this was the only shot where I captured the mood I was looking for so it has to remain as my entry. Thanks for commenting with good critique. I'm looking forward to seeing you both back in the competition - hopefully this week?

Mark, yes while it is a tad soft I like the image. The image could be cropped to remove most or all of the mirror ball on the left which would shift the focus more to your beautiful daughter.

I enjoy this. The focus point does not bother me. I honestly see it as you capturing the spirit of your daughter. A young lady who does things her own coy way. Nicely done.

Thanks Barb, I was trying to leave that ball in there to help define her at 17 but I understand what you are saying. Do you think this is a more compelling crop?

Thanks, you really hit the nail on the head calling her coy. That's a perfect description for her.

Personally I prefer the original, as it is more of an environmental portrait that gives us the background story/context (i.e. parties/just turned seventeen/youth etc).

BTW, don't get me wrong re. focal point I don't mind things being out of focus especially if they connect with the viewer which this definitely does. Just in this case I would be tempted to soften the bit that is in focus, as it keeps competing for attention.

I think the shot is great, you got a perfect angle for her face, the ambience has a synergy with the expression, that made the photo say something. It has a vintage feel so not getting critical sharpness at crucial spots doesn't bother me.

My only nitpick is the reflection on her left eye is unflattering, but it is not something that I notice on the first few looks. Well done!

Thanks Crag - changes made

Thank you, glad you like it. You have no idea how much this scene fits her personality. I tried to fix that reflection on her eye the best I could. Thanks for the suggestion.
