My D700 rear LCD screen went south today. Anyone have the same issue? If so, how much did it cost to have fixed? Appreciate your advice!

DOA means "dead on arrival". Sounds more like "unexpected death" to me. It breaks, you use warranty service or pay for it yourself.

Way out of warranty, purchased in 2009. Captures are still great, just rear LCD out. BTW, hope you are right on a couple of hundred :-)

ROF!

Never stopped. Also have another D700, which was working fine last time I checked. And I just checked it to make sure.

Film is like Disco, they will never die.

I have a friend who had this happen to him recently. Out of warranty issue that turned out to cost him $480 at an authorized repair shop because the image processing chip had issues. Hopefully your LCD screen just went out, will likely be a cheaper repair. Can't hurt to call and get a quote. The quote wont cost anything.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. Hope its the LCD too - but if its the chip, then I'll bite for it. Had my 700's since 2009, and love them. Will send the bad 700 off to Nikon service tomorrow.

Nikon sent back a $255.00 estimate to repair. No info on what, but the price was very reasonable to me, and they did the diagnosis in 2 days !

I know my limitations, always have nuts and bolts/screws/parts left over from stuff I put together. Figure its much better to have someone who knows what they are doing handle it.

If I took it apart it would never get back together in working condition, or with all its parts!

Hey, it's not just you. Nikon sent my D700 back to me after replacing the LCD with a screw missing! To be fair they sent a replacement pronto when I told them about it.

Fortunately it sounds like just the LCD is bad per the Nikon estimate. One of our copies had a similar problem about a year ago before we sold that particular unit. We had it repaired by an authorized Nikon shop and the bill ran $245 plus shipping. Sounds like the Nikon estimate is pretty much in line.

Thanks for the input Dave! I love my 700's. Did you sell it because of additional problems? Or just rotating it out because of high number of captures?

After 35 years as a machinist in basic steel, anything with bolts less than 3/4 inch is just too tedious for me.

No additional problems just found ourselves with too many bodies for the 4 photographers in the family business.

D700 back from El Segundo.

Was contacts, not a LCD replacement, which made me feel better.

They also replaced the rubber grips.

Turned around in two weeks from OK.
