My first glass blowing project! I figured I'd better take some pictures before I shatter them, and what better than experimenting with the perfect amount of DOF to just capture the artwork, without so much of the surroundings? :-)

Maybe I misunderstood the assignment. Everyone else has gone for shallow DOF. I was going for MAXIMUM DOF, as well as my usual play on words "depth" of the long bifurcated "field" in this case.

Why does fredmiranda hate me? It's been over 15 minutes and I still don't have a thumbnail generated. I fixed my web server, so it shouldn't be on my end this time. :-(

I think DOF max works too. This is a unique idea, but the harsh light seems to detract.

I think it works fine (IQ issues aside). DOF is really just a term to describe the focal plane at which focus is achieved. The usual implementation is in the shallow sense, but a deeper DOF is what it is...deep. A lot of people, at least in my mind, confuse it with bokeh, which really has nothing to do with it...

That said, I like the concept!

Thanks guys! I'm not sure what you mean by "the harsh light", Mark. Is that something I could fix now, or is it just that the full Sun is too much? I did crank up the edge contrast a bit to compensate for the f/22 softness. Maybe I should revert back to the softer, straight out of the camera shot?

Harsh light is just the high bright sun as opposed to a lower sun angle that produces some warmer, softer tones in the image.

Ah, so there's really nothing I can do to fix that. Thanks! Maybe I'll head out at Magic Hour and try for a reshoot - but I won't have the cool, matching subjects. Hey, at least I'm learning. Thanks for your help! :-)

Or... a totally different shoot all together! :-P
