p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Samyang Lenses (Rokinon, Bower, et al.)

Although these lenses have been around for a while, I received my first Samyang lens today (actually labeled "Bell and Howell"). I went for the 85/1.4 as that filled a gap in my line-up. While waiting for that lens, I found a great deal on a Bower 35/1.4, so that should be in next week.

My first impressions mirror what I've read from other users -- I'm impressed. Althougth there is no electrical connection between lens and body and all aperture settings must be manually entered, the IQ is very good, putting the lens in a higher class than most Alt glass with adapters. The lens has some CA, especially wide open, but LR seems to get rid of most of it. Otherwise, the lens seems quite sharp with good contrast and color.

I'd love to see shots by other owners of the various Samyang lenses. Maybe this can become the "official" Samyang thread.

Here are some of my first shots with the 85mm. Most are at f/2.8 to 5.6, but some are wide open, as you'll probably be able to tell.

AhamB -- Yes, I noticed there were archived threads of various Samyang lenses as I researched the 85/1.4 (especially from around two years ago, for the 85 debut). I also noticed there was nothing recent particularly, and certainly not a comprehensive thread like we have for Zeiss or Leica. Granted, those brands have a lot more recognition and cachet!

If no one is buying and trying the Samyang family of labels, I guess this thread will die an early death.

It's not quite as bad as starting a thread about starting bad threads, is it?

Jim, I just wanted to point out that there are some threads (none of which are locked) that are good image resources for Samyang lenses. Nothing wrong with inviting people to post their images in a consolidated Samyang/Rokinon/etc. thread, but you could also contribute to the threads for the 85/1.4 (bump this one?) and 35/1.4 (still active and on the first page right now). Consolidation has some advantages, but competing with other threads about the same lenses is kind of a waste, perhaps.

AhamB -- Thanks for pointing that out. I agree, it is wasteful if there is already a good resource of information going. I'll check those out, starting with the 85mm link you left.

The big thread is now locked. Interesting, since the last post in this thread is actually older than the last post in the big thead. Oh well. Some more from a few days ago

Since my old thread is archived, here are some recent Rokinon 85/1.4 on Olympus shots. Love this lens!
