They do look nice and if I wasn't looking for it, it would be easy to not see the slight hues on the far right and the far left on the last pic.

Would you mind shooting a white wall on 3 different apertures?

Bump!

I'm willing to contribute. I have a 5n with a Voigt 15 and Zeiss 25 coming in soon. I keep hearing about "offset micro lenses" which was implemented in the M9 and supposedly the NEX-7 soon. What exactly is this? Is this a feature that has to be switched on or it auto-magically works? Does it exist with the 5N? TIA!

Assuming NEX-C3 and 5N microlenses are the same, here are two great threads with examples:

A few very quick and dirty samples at the end of this thread, ZM18 on NEX5N.

Cool, my ZM25 should be here tomorrow. I don't expect to have any issues with it.

p.2 #7 · p.2 #7 · NEX 5N Sensor Behaviour with Rangefinder Wides

A new article by Steve Huff trying the NEX-7 (and Ricoh GXR) with a couple of M-mount wides:

http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2011/10/28/sony-nex-7-with-wide-angle-leica-lenses-a-quick-test-and-gxr-comparison/

The CV 15 photo shows some bad color shift; much worse than I've seen in samples posted here of the CV 15 with a 5N. Either the 5N and 7 behave differently with respect to how they handle rangefinder wides, or the shooting conditions for that shot were unusual. I know there are a lot of questions about Huff's testing methodology, but I'm not sure what he could have screwed up to cause that much of a color shift.

Just my luck, I sent payment for a CV 15 about 90 minutes before I saw this article.

About the time I read this I lost interest:

One other thing I noticed is that the Sony can put out a very sharp image when using Leica lenses. The GXR is a tad sharper though. The 35 Lux performed wonderfully on the NEX even with the CHEAP adapter I used today that was a bit loose and wobbly. I accidentally left my good one on the 5n at home but it still worked out even though I had a few out of focus shots from the NEX, and IMO, this is due to the wobbly adapter.

Why bother testing with a crap adapter? For that matter, when the 5N is known to be good at handling a lot of M glass, why leave it at home when doing a M glass shoot out on NEX vs Ricoh?

I guess Steve is just not curious enough to follow through on the obvious.

He posted an update and the 5n shows none of the color cast that the 7 does, whew!

Michael; I assume Steve did not anticipate the NEX7 having problems with them wides and simply left out the NEX5N to lessen the work load He might have been curious as to see how well the GXR would stand up against the NEX7 that is packing twice the pixel count.

The NEX7 performance is so poor with wide angles that I am actually relieved and quite pleased that I got a 5N for the time being. A split decision that I now feel I won't have to regret.

I was actually going to get a 7 because of the bigger size and controls but those results are a bit shocking. Yes it's fixable but it's really bad.

I have a G 28 and G 21, and a NEX 5N. The colour cast is 90% gone with the 28, and the corner sharpness is weak but acceptable. It is my walk-about lens, and produces stellar results in other respects. The G 21 is an even better lens, but, unfortunately, still generates a colour cast in too many cases to be acceptable.---

Philippe, this was a while ago but could you post an example(-s) showing color cast with the 21? I now have the G 28, 45 and 90 for the 5N and is seriously thinking about the 21.

I have (not yet) seen any problems with the G 28, and frankly I dont see the effect in the corner example you posted.

Wfrank, it,will be two weeks before I am home and able to post. But if you still feel that all is well with the G21, you are welcome to buy mine. Now that I have a very satisfactory ZM 18, and considering that I will get the native Zeiss 24 f:1.8, I am done with it.

Thanks Philippe, I might very well consider that. Just need to understand how and when the smearing occurs, as with you it may lead me in another direction. Too bad for such a nice lens otherwise.

Hope your enjoying your travel and make good use of the G's :-)

Philippe, and anyone else who wants to comment...

I am a new and happy 5N owner torn between the native Zeiss 24 and the ZM 25. I think this will be my primary walk around lens, and I can only afford one of them! I've read that the ZM 25 is first rate, and of course the 24 isn't out yet. Anything in particular leading you to choose the 24? I'm mainly a manual focus person, so the AF issue is not very important to me...

A little contribution - one of my first images from the 5N. Helios 44 (58mm) - I didn't get the focus exactly right. I feel like I am starting over, moving from the D700.

partitura: I have the ZM25 which is an excellent lens on full frame. On crop sensor it loses a little of the magic, perhaps being too clinical. It does make for an technically excellent lens with minimum distortion though. I will shoot some more with it and I will try to post a sample soon so you can decide for yourself.

By the looks of it the Zeiss 24mm lens will be an excellent lens and I think I would prefer it myself over the ZM25. The only advantage for the ZM would be that it would work on more than one platform. With the Zony lens you need to commit to the NEX mount and should you love the lens you have to stick with the NEX or let it go further down the line.

For those who haven't read this, Michael's quick look at the NEX 7 includes plenty about the new 24. Worth a read.

Reichmann also says he screwed the pooch on that 24mm test and that he's going to do it again. You have to go to the What's New page and scroll down to the link to the review.
