I wonder if they'll take an XZ-1 for trade?

It strikes me as rather large given the sensor size, particularly when compared to the x100.

Does anyone know the expected price?

Wonder if the OVF is going to be closer to a X100 size or more like the tiny, near useless optical ones on the Canon G series ?

A nice big bright OVF is fantastic but the one on the G12 was pretty useless in actual shooting as it was so small and tiny you couldn't really use it for anything other than a very rough guess of composition.

Being it says its zoomable, and given the tiny size of the camera already, seems like it would be a real challenge to make anything overly big and bright.

Still though, looks like it could be a winner among the high end p&s class.

If theres really that much demand for a high end p&s I don't really know though. They are a bit too big to be carry everywhere, and camera phones seem to rapidly be replacing the "pocket" camera for many people

At the same time, given the size and cost, there are all the other options such as NEX, m4/3, GXR etc that I think many people are leaning towards rather than the high end compact with better IQ at around the same price level and size.

Guess it depends on price more than anything as it does look like a fun camera. $399 or $499 even, and I might be tempted

$799 or so and just wouldn't be able to justify that type of money for what is still a compact.

Additionally, also would depend if it takes a 6 month wait from when they start shipping til I could actually get one, like happened with the X100 lol

Rumors are this is the same sensor Nikon is using in their new family of tiny ILC.

Strange how Nikon plans to go with such a small sensor. I mean its not all about IQ of course, and I'm a happy m4/3 user based on the total system though it lags behind APS-C, yet you would think if they could go with a blank canvas they'd go a little larger.

I think something like a size between APS-C and m4/3 would of been a unique sweet spot.

Promise better IQ than m4/3 yet still be able to make smaller lenses than needed for APS-C and they'd really make people take notice.

People seem to love m4/3 size but some find the IQ lacking as the main complain

APS-C like NEX has great IQ, but many say the lenses are just a bit too big

Meet both those groups halfway and they could of had a real hit

MSRP is going to be around $599/600... So I am sure you will be able to buy this around $500 in real world prices...

This looks very much like a G series PS to me: purposeful but underpowered given the sensor size.
Given that the NEX and m43 cameras are pretty much in the same price range, I wonder whom this is aimed at.

I hope that is not the final/real appearance. The front is just plain ugly, the optical viewfinder looks horribly misplaced and just tiny.
I dont see any reason to go for this over a S95, if the price is more than $100 higher. Sensor size to price to feature ratio just doesn't do it for me.

I'd rather rock M4/3 on the cheap and have more image control/lens options.

Read that the OVF is 85% coverage. Pretty worthless.

$600 ?

if i were to go for a minisculely-sensored-compact, i'd take a canon G12 for $460.

ymmv, of course.

Yeah, like all of the Leica M cameras that works the same.

It'll be interesting how it will compete with the XZ1.

Happy shooting,

from dpr.com:

"The 12MP sensor can...under-expose half its pixels to provide 6MP images with greater dynamic range, or combine neighboring pixels for a 6MP high sensitivity mode."

i'll be paying very close attention to the explanations of these features in the days ahead. i.e., a 12MP sensor of that size doesn't interest me. a 6MP one... might.

You can always downsize a 12MP image, but you can't underexpose half the pixels after the fact! Perhaps using high pixel count is a cheap way for Fuji to achieve something like EXR.
