The bad news is that it works on the NEX-5N only, and not on the “older NEX”.

Well, it cant work on regular NEX, cause its missing coupling with EVF. Though if they used HDMI, it could work for old NEX too, but I guess they are just too lazy for that. And ofc they want us to buy NEX.

I think NEX-7 is better way then NEX-5N plus EVF. Though it will depend on price (and performace).

Do we even actually KNOW what the NEX-7 is going to look like and feature? No, right?

Nice and well requested feature. Specs sound pretty good on it but I must say it sure looks breakable.

Most of the EVF's slide into a true hotshoe, and are pretty rugged for the most part. This Sony one kind of look like it could snap right off with any pressure on the top of it due to the very small pivot point on the bottom.

The 5N viewfinder pivots too, which is real cool. But I'm definitely a fan of the NEX 7's look. I like the boxy design instead of overly rounded. It also looks a little more wide in the body so that will probably help as far as handling. Can't wait to get my hands on one.

I've been following Sony rumors for a long time, and I've yet to see leaked studio images like these before an announcement that weren't real. I'd bet on these being real.

What strikes me is that, in retrospect, the NEX 3 and NEX 5 were too closely related in specs and physical package.
Tis time around, Sony seem to have done a better job of differentiating the 3 cameras with different sizes and attributes, which sould give them more market share, providing their lens offering follows the same improvement path.

--i'm hoping that this differentiation manifests itself in less menu-diving and more external controls appearing on the rear of the NEX-7.

--the new 24/1.8 is another step in the right direction for the NEX system. (or should i say, it brings me - someone who desires a digital rangefinder system that doesn't have a leica badge on it - one step closer to buying into such a system.)

I was thinking about getting one for my Zeiss ZK glass and at this moment
I'm leaning towards the upcoming Samsung NX200...
I like the form of NX better, Sony just looks more like a phone to me,
not a camera. Samsung is bringing a brand new 20MP sensor
and NX200 will be a great camera, no doubt about it.
Works well with a Pentax K mount adaptor.
What do you think makes Sony a better choice?

Are you talking about the NEX-7 or the NEX-5N? IMO, the NEX-7 looks fantastic.

Either way, while I think Samsung has the better lens selection so far, they've yet to make a competitive sensor to Sony's, so I'm not holding out high hopes for a 20mp from them. For me, the sensor and the inability to mount M lenses is why I didn't go NX in the first place. If Samsung can make a competitive sensor, that will certainly help their cause.

p.s. Focus Peaking is also a feature Samsung would need to implement before I bought one for any manual lenses. It is a game changing feature on NEX, IMO.

The NEX7 may well be for me the first camera to give me the body size and lens adaptability I want without sacrificing IQ and (hopefully) ergonomics.
We'll know soon enough

Douglas,

thanks for your input. I used to have Pentax K-7 which I guess is the sensor
Samsung is using now on their NX cameras. I really liked colors this camera
was producing with my Zeiss ZK glass. Maybe ISO 1billion wasn't great,
but I really don't care. I'm sure the new generation will be better.

You're right NEX-7 looks good, focus peaking looks good too.

What would be a wide lens you would recommend for it?
My widest lens at the moment is Pentax 15mm Limited which
is surprisingly good and I can use it on a Samsung NX even though
it's electronic. Are Novoflex adapters able to control electronic lenses
on a Sony NEX camera?

Rather than post a new thread on this NEX 7 info, I'll post it here.
This looks to be a render, but it shows what the 3 dials do. (in that mode at least)
The only thing is that the EVF is missing, this may just to illustrate the dials use and it may have been done before the EVF was added to the design.

I'm stricken by the lack of buttons on the back but I think the lack of EVF and difference in body type means the two button and thumbwheel layout isn't the definitive layout for the NEX-7. I obviously would like more buttons and a high amount of customization. The dual wheel looks pretty interesting for changing even more settings on the fly. So you've essentially got three wheels if they put in a thumb wheel on the back.
