If so, please post some pictures. I'm interested to see if any fishiness is left. Just to be clear, I'm generally not a FE fan but I did like the 15/2.8 pictures on my 7D (not much fishiness left if straight lines are not near the edges) and I think about buying it, as well as the E-P3. With the 15/2.8 and 45/1.8, I may get along without the 20/1.7. I'm well aware of the technical differences - I like the size, the aperture and the AF of the 20/1.7 but the 15/2.8 has better FL on MFT IMHO and can be mounted on my 7D as well.

So, apart from pictures, I'm especially interested in your opinion on the above. TIA.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

How about mentioning what brand you are talking about?

Edit: I suppose it's the Canon EF 15/2.8 Fisheye? Then I can't see the point at all. There's a good 14/2.5 from Panasonic for MFT. Why use an enormous FF lens with adapter instead of a very small one made for the format?

There is an adapter for EF that allows aperture control these days? I thought there was only some prototype.

A 15mm fisheye on m4/3 is pretty useless. You can see a very slight bit of curvature at the edges, but it's not very wide...about as wide as a 13mm lens or so (26mm FF FOV). If you really want a fisheye for m4/3, the Panasonic 8mm is absolutely fantastic. It's the best fisheye I've ever owned overall. Sharper with less CA than the Sigma 15mm f/2.8 (though not quite as flare resistant, but still good), with very nice color, ultra compact. Fantastic little lens.

For similar FOV, I'd get the 14/2.5 (which isn't a fisheye but it doesn't really matter at this focal length), which is super tiny and decent. The Peleng 8mm will also work pretty well, though it's a bit large on m4/3, especially compared to the Panny.

Well, of course it's Canon's. Mentioning the 7D should be an obvious giveaway. Also, I believe I wrote why I was thinking about it in the OP....

I do not consider the 15/2.8 enormous. Quite the opposite in fact. On the 7D it's actually quite tiny and I suspect it would balance well on E-P3.

I'm well aware of the 14/2.5 but if I'll buy a wide MFT lens it will be the 12/2 and not the 14/2.5. Also, if I'll get it, it will accompany the 20/1.7, not replace it as FL are quite different.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I have no idea but it's O.K. I mostly shoot wide open anyway.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I tried to explain in the OP that I'm not interested in the FE effect but rather, as a regular 30/2.8 lens. That's why I'm not interested in the Peleng.

The thing is, I consider buying it anyway for my 7D so I was thinking "How could I live wit it on MFT?". In fact, the thing which worries me most is MF. You see, I quite like AF and one of the reasons for me to want the E-P3 is that it's AF system seem very good. As I generally like the longer FL for people photography (85-135 on FF) I expect that the 45/1.8 will be my main lens and the other (be it 20/1.7 or 15/2.8) will be used a lot less.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Yakim,

For the look of a full frame fisheye lens on mFT, the second image in the link below shows the OM 16mm FE on an Olympus E-1 (original FT camera). The view looks about the same as a 28mm (equivalent) semi-wide angle lens and looks just the same as if the lens were mounted on a mFT camera. The first image shows the OM 8mm circular FE which appears to retain some of the fishiness.

It's enormous compared to the 14/2.5 (with the adapter of course). I don't understand why people are buying such a small camera to put relatively large lenses on it, but we're all different.

I'm well aware of the 14/2.5 but if I'll buy a wide MFT lens it will be the 12/2 and not the 14/2.5.

Why?

Yakim,

I also tried the 15mm FE with the G2, not impressed at all. Better results by pre-setting aperture on EFs 10-22mm, and having the range of FL's to play with.

I didn't use the EF 15 fish, but I did try out the FD 15 fish when I had the EP2, and it was okay. I ended up using the FD 17/4 more often- straighter lines and, in my opinion, much better color.

Thanks Edd. It's good to know. I already have the 10-22.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Why not just get the m4/3 14mm f2.5 if you want a 28mm equiv ??

It weights like 2 ounces and is so small its hardly thicker than a lens cap. Focuses very fast and seems pretty sharp.

I've got it and the Oly 12mm f2.0 and trying to figure out which one I like more. Don't really see the Oly as being worth about$500 more

For me, the allure of the 15/2.8 lies in the fact that I can use it on my 7D. I wrote that in the OP. I've said it above but seemingly failed to explain it well so I'll try again:

Money no object, my MFT set will be 12/2 + 20/1.7 + 45/1.8. However, as money is an issue I try to see if I can mange with and different set which will consist only two lenses. 45/1.8 is sure to be in it so it's out. Now for the wide/semi-side issue. If I want to trim it to just one lens - here it becomes a problem. While I could live with a 20/1.7 + 45/1.8 set, I'd rather go a bit wider. For some reason, the 14/2.5 does not have any appeal for me. I don't really know why but some of the things are is that it's a bit too small and that it's aperture is a bit on the slow side. So, it's out.

As I intend to buy the 15/2.8 anyway, I wondered if I could live with a a 15/2.8 + 45/1.8 set. As I generally like the longer FL for people photography (85-135 on FF) I expect that the 45/1.8 will be my main lens and the other (be it 20/1.7 or 15/2.8) will be used a lot less so the lack of AF and aperture control will not bug me so much.

In the meanwhile, I got a PM from another forum member with pictures taken with the 15/2.8 on G1. They look very good as long as one keeps straight lens away from the edges of the frame.

Last, it seems that it is impossible to buy an E-P3 without a kit lens so - at least for the short term - my kit will be 14-42 + 20/1.7 + 45/1.8. No 15/2.8 needed...

Happy shooting,
Yakim.
