The Canon 1D Mark IV has taken quite a bit of beating lately. I am not saying that those negative posts are right or wrong or indifferent and I feel sorry for those folks that have issues, perceived or real, with that camera. For sure this thread won't make those people feel better or even less, fix their issues, however, I feel the need to praise something that deserves praising. You may feel that way or you may not but the 1D Mark IV is one heck of camera, mine it is. There is a problem though and it is not with the camera but with me. I don't get to use the camera that much. Shame on me . Here are some shots taken during a birding trip to Bosque del Apache with two other FMers, Bobby Tan and thedigitalbean (Aravind). Believe it or not it has been several months when I used this camera seriously.
Sandhill cranes were mostly our birds of targets at Bosque. We captured images of them landing, taking off under various conditions, such as backlit or diffuse lighting, sideways or straight on. One thing I noticed, when the AF was locked, then it was locked very well. One of the shots shows snow geese and other sandies in the viewfinder but the camera locked on the target as I wanted it to. Did I get out of focus images? Of course I did but in general that was my fault for not being able to track them in flight, especially when too close. Yes, I also got a fair share of clipped wings, etc. However, I firmly believe that the camera performed as good as I could expect.
Feel free to express your experience here, good or bad, although I prefer more good vibes coming from 1D Mark IV owners. Please include some images, too.
Thanks!
