Very nice pictures from all of you. I am SO anxious to get my 1DMKII by the 12th. I used to have a 1D a few years back, but only shot sports with it. Keep them coming

"Cicopo,
Let me guess - that last picture is a remotely controlled lawn mower?"

Don, I consider it a multi purpose tool . Not only does it mow the lawn it also sprays for mosquitos.

Interesting thread. It has convinced me that unless you are photographing birds in flight or sports then there is no particular reason (in terms of IQ) to buy a 1 series over, say, a 5D2. I am in no way running down the images here, just saying 95% of them could have been taken with a dramatically cheaper camera.

Here are two I took yesterday at an exhibition opening. 1DsMkII with 70-200f4 (NIS)@800ASA.
What is often missed by people when posed with the question would you spend x thousand for a 1 series or buy a 5D, is that image quality isn't the only reason to buy a camera. If you shoot for a living in extreme conditions, (like I do), dual card slots and robust weather sealing are a more important consideration then image quality. The quality achievable from the high to top end Canons is a given, (baring manufacturing faults), so if you need to be sure you have the shot and discover your card has failed you'll understand.

If you've never had that "OH f**K" moment then you're lucky and its all ahead of you, for those of use who have I'm sure you, like me, will not want to have an other one.

Someone from PS could say - we could shot same without even using SLR. So? Don't forget that we own other, cheaper to 1d cameras as well as 1d. I just sold 5d2, use to own 7d for two weeks and many other camera bodies too ... 1d is superior body to any and you could shot anything you like including birds and sports.

I have to say I agree with both opinions, and like others I've owned many other bodies but when I have to get the shot I reach for the 1Ds2. I just shot another R/C event on Sat & try as I have I just don't like using the 7D for the flying shots. I sure can't say I like the size of the buffer in the 1Ds2, but other than that it fits my needs best out of all the bodies I've owned.

Except that I paid less for my used 1D MKIII than I would have for a 5D MKII, AND the MKIII gives me better high ISO performance, weather sealing, dual cards, a more durable body and much better autofocus speed.

You're right--but IQ, for the most part, is not where the differences lie, it's performance offered that you cannot see in images that really counts. My 5D offers excellent IQ, better or equal to what my MKIII provides however my MKIII performs better in every single other important aspect (Handling, AF, VF, Build etc). The point spread alone is enough for me to use my 1DIII over my 5D.

Sorry but I felt the urge to post a shot that is both a "Bird in flight" and " Sports" shot

This may be lost on our American friends but we'll let you way with it, given the day that's in in!
