If you have certain questions on specific settings, just ask and I can see where mine are compared to yours.

Well why don't we start at the exterior settings first then work our way into the menus.

Yeah I just threw on my newer 50mm and 8FPS as well, I think my 15-30mm is to old or something cause it will only max at 5FPS.

Just impossible to run a D300 at 14bit and 8fps

here from the nikon site on the D300

Continuous shooting * • With built-in battery: up to 6 fps
• With AC adapter or MB-D10 pack and batteries other than EN-EL3e: up to 8 fps
• 12-bit RAW at full speed, 14-bit RAW only 2.5 fps

I always reserve the right to be proven wrong My D300 never did 8fps in 14bit either

Anyone has an idea why does it say 5fps on the info screen? I don't even have the BP sign at the top screen. (no idea what does it mean but someone mentioned it)

I believe certain settings might cause the D700 to stay at 5 fps. Something like "Active D-lighting" or "High ISO NR" being turned on.

Edit: I see these have already been checked.

Are you using the same AAA batteries as your friend? If not, try your friend's batteries.

BP shows you the MB-D10 grip battery indicator. Stands for Battery Pack and tells what you are using AA's, EL4 etc..You have the latest firmware correct? 1.02 A/B

Does it mean my body does not recognized the MB-D10? Or can it mean, because it's showing the body battery apparently, that the batteries from grip are empty?

It could be that the batteries aren't charged enough or strong enough. Are you sure you have set the proper battery type for the AA batteries (menu "d10")?

ON the top LCD you will have BP->Shows the battery level ( This only tells you the current battery being used battery level ) However if you go to the LCD on the back it will tell you what BP is being used, so with your grip you should see LR6/AA -> Battery Level, and thats how you know what battery pack your camera is actually using at that time.

Like most have said ensure your grip is the preference battery pack and if thats the case, your batteries are obviously not dead, you should see what I just indicated. Don't go by the top LCD, use your rear LCD to confirm your grip is recognized and being used, maybe the grip is faulty and you have done nothing wrong.

I should have mentioned when you look at your rear LCD the battery grip will be lit up if chosen as the first in line, then above it you will see a small camera icon with its battery level but its dimmed out cause its not currently being used. If you are only seeing a battery level with no icons, the grip is not recognized.

With AA's it will say LR6/AA.

Setup Menu -> Battery Info.

Does it show two columns, D700 and MB-D10?

If yes, is there a bold selection highlight around the MB-D10 section?

If no to either of the above, that's your problem.

It does show two columns.
The bold selection higlight is around the D700...

So it is using the internal battery and not the MB-D10 (hence, obviously, no 8 fps).

From your shot of the LCD it looks like it thinks there is no juice in your AA's (see Mike Mohrmann post above).

That shot is indicating the grip has no battery life and that the camera is using the D700's body battery.

Thats weird, I've put in 4 fresh batteries and 4 batteries from my Flash which I've used very little... Nevertheless I'm planning to buy rechargable batteries today and I'll try them aswell...

It looks like your AA batteries are dead/don't have enough power for the grip. You should see some bars on the power level and the LR6/AA area should be white.

Also make sure you have the battery type defined correctly in menu d10.
