I didn't see anything on this so I thought I'd ask. I pulled out my 35L which I haven't used in a while and the focus ring is not the usual black but a few shades lighter of gray. Had it not been sitting peacefully in a dark closet I'd suspect it had been subject to a lot of sun or heat. Regardless, do any of you use any product on the rings to keep them from drying out and discoloring?

Edit - found a suggestion that worked. Simply took an old clean toothbrush (dry) and scrubbed the rubber ring in the direction of the ridges and the gray went away.

Yep, that's a good remedial action, and one I have suggested here from time to time.

For prevention, I like a small amount of 303 Protectant.
