I just purchased an PCB Einstein and I want to buy a Speedotron Beauty Dish to use with it. This one to be exact: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/133201-REG/Speedotron_14236_Beauty_Dish_Grid_Reflector.html

My question is.........how do I attach it to the Einstein?

Thank you,
Tom K.

Replace the speedotron speedring with a PCB
compatible speedring. Line up the screw between
the two speedring, drill the holes, install the PCB
speedring in place of the speedotron.

I prefer no DIY projects. If this is my only option I might as well go with an Octobox.

Thanks for the input zurkees.

I suppose drilling 4 corresponding holes
and swapping the speedring is considered
a DIY; much like assembling an octobox.

The first part of this link shows what you'd need to do with an AB ring...pretty simple.

I mean, is tying shoelaces considered a DIY project for footwear?

I don't understand why you would choose the speedotron over the alienbees dish. It's very well designed and already has a grid available for it. The speedotron isn't a very good dish, I have one and only use it because there isn't a grid available for the elinchrom dish.

You can get the adapter from Kacey Enterprises (google for it...I'm not sure what the policy is to linking commercial sites here).

Works well. I use it w/ my Speedo dish. And I like the ridged design much more than the simple bowl type of dish...makes beauty shots look better IMHO.

I appreciate the feedback very much. Lot's to think about here.

I've never seen/used any Kacey Enterprise product. This is for info only, not an endorsement.

Kacey has a 22" (Mola style) beauty dish with a Balcar/AB/WL/Einstein adapter available. Also a grid and a carry bag. http://www.kaceyenterprises.com/?page_id=461

For those who have both AB/WL/Enstein and speedlights, there is also a speedlight mount.

Hope this helps.

The Kacey White Lightning adapter is a direct, drop-in replacement for the stock Speedotron mount:

Eric,

I have no experience with AB dish but what's wrong with the Speedotron BD? I find it to be very good and there are many happy users around as well. It's pretty much the same as Mola Demi, the only thing different is coating...

True, Mola dishes have some texture, not sure how it affects the light quality though.
I found Mola dishes have slightly warmer hue then my Profoto or Speedo BD.

I have bigger Mola Euro (see here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/988365/0#9385090 ) and if Demi is the same as its bigger brother I don't think it's sturdier than Speedo. Both are pretty sturdy and about the same, IMO.
However when it comes to pricing Speedo BD coupled with the grid is much better buy, again, IMO.

I bought Euro because there is no alternative at this time, but if Speedo built equivalent dish for lower price like they did with the 22" version I'd be sporting it instead.

I'm quite intrigued by the Setti, but have 3 BD already so I'll probably skip it.
I may try Eli 27" DO instead as it's easier to use on location While it probably won't be the same, it has a chance to be pretty close and with inner/outer diffusers and set of deflectors it's super versatile

The speedotron actually has a steeper curvature on it's body and it causes
hot spot rings. The mola is more even. point the speedotron to the wall
with the modeling light on and you will see the hot rings.

Question is whether you'd see it photographing people? Especially if you shoot with the grid, as I mostly do.
TBH, I never found hot spot rings to be a problem when photographing a real person.

I get the point that you want to show they are different. They very well may be, but I like speedo.

I should add, I put cinefoil where the translucent disc is. I wonder if it somehow helps with the hot rings? I thought the hot spot in the center was a little too much (I know some like it) and cinefoil works great.

Zurkzees, it reminds me you promised to post your findings from a post a while back.
Any pictures to share? It would be interesting to see.

Not doubting you at all but I would still love to see the differences in photo examples. And on an actual model or subject...not a wall, stuffed animal or mannequin head.

In the beginning I liked the speedo also. Argued over and over
how the mola is a waste of money & they are the same. I'm
not the type to buy things by brand alone if there is something
that cost less I can use to get the same result. However, in this
case I purchased both to find out for myself.

I don't have side by side comparison, I only have 1 profoto
speedring I can use. I suppose you might be correct with
using a grid that you won't see the problem. Such is the case
with any light source with the same size with a grid attachment
