I came from a 20D, and while I couldn't upgrade to the 1dMk2 variant, I chose to go for 1D for PJ-style stuff. I prefer the 1D over it because of the more natural colors. 20D needs lots of processing not to look "digital" (oxymoron..., i know). I wanted a 1d-style body mainly for construction...i often lost power on the 20d due to the flexy grip. I wasnt disappointed,...i often have to shoot in pouring rain and now i dont need to stress about the camera shorting. Noise is also not much of an issue if you "shoot-to-the-right". But it's still there. I liked doing night photography with the 20d...impossible with the 1D because of the ccd...makes huge purple spots in the corners, above 25 seconds.
Anyway, it's still a good buy, even though it's 5 years old. I'll probably keep it and buy a 1dmk2 when the price come down.
