Canon EOS D30

Review Date: Feb 1, 2007 Recommend? | Price paid: $300.00

Pros: Very nice inexpensive DSLR to learn on. Very well built body.
At 3.3 MPs its considered low today.

You can't compare this to more modern bodie because of the low MP count. But it is made very well, the pro-series bodies are awesome. Would make a very good first DSLR for anyone looking to learn a bit before dropping big bucks.

Canon EOS Rebel XTi (400D)

Review Date: Feb 1, 2007 Recommend? no | Price paid: $610.00 | Rating: 6

Pros: Lightweight and inexpensive DSLR
Too small for some hands. I personally could never get the image quality from the XTi that I get from my XT, maybe just a bad copy.

When I first heard of the new release of this body I was stoked to get one. But, after playing around with it I found I wasn't getting the same high quality images that I was able to get from my XT. All shots seemed a little too soft and most shots taken with Auto WB looked overly blue.

The additional 2 mp more didn't seem to make much difference at all.

I suspect that I may have had a lemon, but I have read many similar reviews, so who knows.

Canon EF 20-35mm f/2.8L

Review Date: Feb 1, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $450.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: Feels very well made, although heavy. As sharp as any zoom out there.
Narrow zoom range.

This was my first L lens, so naturally I was impressed. The build quality is great. A little slower focus than USM but not bad at all. For the price it definately serves its purpose well.

Canon EOS D30

Review Date: Jan 14, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $300.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: Rugged, large (I have big hands), large viewfinder.
Low Megapixels

Just got one used for $300. I normally shoot a Rebel XT, but thought I'd get a lesser expensive body to keep with me in the car all the time. Something I wouldn't cry about if I dropped it. Turns out I really like it. More user friendly than the XT I think. Much more professional. Can't beat the price. 3 Mp is kinda low by today's standards but I can't complain.
