Pros:
It is all true! It is NOT a coincidence that this is the highest ranking Canon zoom on FM!
Cons:
Not exactly inconspicuous, esp with the hood attached.
I'ver been using it for about 2 yrs on a 1.6x crop. Can't wait to see what it is going to do on a FF.

Pros:
Good range, IS.
Cons:
Nasty purple fringing at the wide end, not sharp at corners, variable aperture is a PITA.

I decided I do not need the IS in such a short lens and sold it to finance a 17-40L. Quite happy with my choice.

Pros:
Fast, unobtrusive, really sharp beyond about F2, F2.5 (especially if you are coming from moderately priced zooms), nice portrait lens on a 1.6x crop Canon.
Cons:
A little plasticky, not terribly fastfocusing, hunts sometimes esp. when not using the center point (on 20D & 40D).

A picture's worth a 1000 words. A gallery of images all taken with this lens and Canon 40D, most wide open. F numbers are shown. http://orionlessskies.com/folio/bulgarian-outback/kremikovci/index.html
