Great general purpose lens. It has a good (but not great) zoom range, very good colors and contrast, fast and accurate USM with FTM.

The telescoping soom sucks in dust, especially behind the front element itself. I have no idea if it's possible to clean it at this point....
Also, I find this lens a bit soft. Of course, I'm spoiled by my razor-sharp 50mm f/1.8 (nifty-fifty) lens, but it's still a bit soft for me at any f-stop. This lens definitely has it's own "character", which may or may not be to your liking.

I was originally torn between this model and the 28-135mm IS lens, but I ultimately couldn't justify spending an extra $300 for the IS feature and an extra 25mm of zoom. Although the zoom range feels a bit odd - not quite wide enough on the short end, and not quite tight enough on the long end - I still feel it was the right choice.
As long as you're not expecting sharp, super-zoom, silky-bokeh results from it, I think you'll be satisfied.
