Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G AF-S DX

DX-17-55_L
Review Date: May 26, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: SHARPNESS! Colour, AF speed & accuracy.
Cons:
Price, but you do get what you pay for and if it doesn't suit you then you can still probably sell it for 85% of what you paid for it.

Cracking lens, sharp at f2.8, VERY sharp at f4 onwards, focusing on D200 is rapid and very accurate, built very well. Traded up from a Sigma, the Nikon is 4x the price but the colour and contrast rendition alone make it worth the extra cash, also, in my opinion seems to give slightly more accurate exposures and focus better on the non-cross sensors of a D200 a little better. Expensive but excellent.

Pros: Speed, colour & contrast, build quality, everything.
Cons:
Price, but you have to pay 50% more to get 20% more quality.

Fantastic lens, a pleasure to use and inspires confidence every time I use it, it's the business. Colour, contrast, sharpness, speed, all excellent. VR is like a Jedi mind trick. Much better at f4 that f2.8 but it's no dog either wide open. I don't find it heavy at all - I think it's really well balanced (I upgraded from a shorter, fatter Sigma 70-200). Although it is long it is also quite slender. Awesome - if you want this range, buy one.
