Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM

ef_16-35_28_1_
Review Date: Nov 1, 2009 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $830.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Great build and center sharpness. Fast focus and the best value on the used market.
Cons:
Soft corners, but only at 2.8.

For the price I paid I got 16mm at f2.8 and "L" quality all around. This is one of the best deals on the used market. This lens is on my full frame camera most of the time.

Pros: Sharp lens. Great IQ, build, focus speed.
Cons:
None

I love the perspective on this lens; and at 1.4 there are many creative possibilities. I contemplated getting the Mark II but I cannot see why I would. This lens delivers every time.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM

Review Date: Nov 1, 2009 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: Great travel lens and build. Optics are good.
Cons:
The lens is very expensive.

I have owned the Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM and the Canon EF-S 55-250mm. The DO beats both in terms of size and build. The focus speed is not even a contest; the focus speed of the DO is noticeably better. All three lenses have great IQ. Why did I go with the DO if all three optics are equal? The focus speed of the DO allows me to get the picture. There were times I missed pictures because the AF was too slow.

The biggest drawback is the price.

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM

Review Date: Sep 16, 2009 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,500.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Edge to edge sharpness, great build, fast focus....
Cons:
Price...

I own over 5 L lenses and this is right near the top. It never lets me down. The glass is just about perfect and competes with my other L Prime Lenses. This is Canon's BEST wide angle zoom to date.
