Tamron 28-75MM F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF)

Review Date: Mar 18, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $379.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: optics, price

The build quality is a bit lacking, but not terrible. The price is right and the optics are superb. I am not sure why people are too upset about the focusing issues, just send it in to Tamron and it will come back better then ever. This may not be an L glass in build quality, but optically it is darn close!

Sigma 150mm f2.8 APO Macro DG EX HSM

Review Date: Mar 18, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $589.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Quiet, fast focusing, great tripod mount, superb build quality, excellent optics
A bit heavy, nothing else really

I would have to say this lens has to be one of the best on the market. It is easily as good as Canon's 180mm L macro. If you miss focus in AF it can take a little bit to go all the way through the range to lock, but that is normal for a dedicated macro in my experience. The build quality is superb and holds true to the EX series.

Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX Macro 1:1 Lens

Review Date: May 21, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $349.99 | Rating: 9

Pros: Solid Build, Nice size to work with, Focus Limiting,Lens Hood, case
AF is a bit slow but can be dealt with no problems. the way the hood attaches.

I li=ove the lense. No regrets purchasing it at all. I use it for Macros as well as closeups, portraits, and even some sports (prefocusing needed do to the slower AF). Build wise this thing is great! Optically superb in every aspect and super sharp. I can honestly highly recommned this lens to anyone making a choice on a Macro lens in this size range.
