After having purchased a Rebel XT last fall I was hooked! I ended up selling my XT and taking advantage of this years fall rebates...boy am I glad I did!
The Rebel XT is a perfect camera for a DSLR starter and I have very few complaints having used it for a year...only two actually. The build quality is not that great and the controls are a bit weak, especially if you have large hands...but hey, you can't beat the price!
The 30D is a tank and it performs and the controls are amazing. The dial on the rear is a savior for me. I have only had the 30D for a few days, but I can tell I made a good decision to upgrade. This camera should last me a long, long time!

A bit on the heavy side but not that big of a deal.

I took advantage of the Canon Rebates and ended up getting this lens for $390 brand spanking new. It is an excellent walk around lens, although not wide enough for my landscape shots...Tokina 12-24 takes care of that issue.
It is a tad bit heavy, but not heavy enough to scare me away. I have noticed some low scores from other reviewers and scratch my head as to why? Maybe I got a good copy?
