Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

Review Date: Aug 29, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Sharpness, Fast Autofocusing.

I have had this lens for 3mths now, and must say I think its a brilliant lens. Sharpness is spot-on, auto-focusing is as fast as they come.
I quite like the Cream Colour, or off-white as I shoot at some big events (Soccer and Rugby) so are among plenty of other White L Lens. I also shoot Cricket with this lens.
As I shoot 'Floodlight' matches aswell, a f2.8 is a must.
I sold the f4 70-200mm to buy this lens. I hand hold this lens no problem on my 1D Mk2 and 20D(with battery grip) boddies.
In the UK this lens is selling for 1350 or there abouts so, I ordered
this lens from a Kind person in The States and I saved 350.
By-the-way, I never remove the Tripod collar when hand holding.

Pros: Speed Fps.
Have to use two buttons every time you want to change ISO, Drive etc.

First time I touched the Shutter Button I was taken-back by the Speed fps. I honestly found this Shutter noisy, maybe louder than my other Body 20D.
Being a Sports Photographer I needed the Speed as I also use the 20D when doing a shoot.
I hand hold this camera with a f2.8L IS 70-200mm no prob, also use
a 300mm L IS f4 hand held no prob.
I must admit I 'bit my tongue' and waited for a big price-drop before I made a Purchase.
If you need the Speed, Buy this Camera. If you dont need the Speed buy the 20D.

Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM

Pros: Incredibly Sharp, IS, Not too heavy, Pull-out-Lens-Hood, fast focusing.

I have now owned this lens for 5wks, find it incredibly sharp and quick focusing with my 20D. A nice pullout lens hood aswell. Its my first IS lens and to be honest I dont find this function noisy, infact when I'm shooting I forget its ON. I use both 1 & 2 settings no problem. I have used this lens mainly to cover sports-Rugby and Cricket, which can be viewed on my website. I use a 1.4xTC with this lens if I need to get to 420mm. I handhold with the tripod bracket in the palm of my hand very comfortable, for 2-4hrs at a time(occasionably resting my hands of course:-) I almost went for the 100-400mm L IS but chose this lens as I read it was sharper-being a prime. I highly recomend this lens.
