I've got the version I with the built in hood, which I love. It was made in '95 and it looks like its brand new!!
This is the first lens I've used that really blew me away and I've used many Canon primes and L's. The bokeh, colors, contrast and sharpness are simply amazing, even wide open. This lens is simply incredible. I'm now dreaming of the 135L.

I purchased this lens after reading so many glowing reviews about it.
I was very dissapointed by the sharpness. My kit lens was sharper, much sharper!!
Here's the proof: both lens wide open, tripod mounted, MLU, no PP, 100% crop.....

Kit lens at 50mm f/5.6

Two other things that annoyed me about this lens: poor minimum focus distance and not nearly wide enough on a crop sensor for a "walk-around" lens, at least for me.
