Canon Extender EF 1.4X III

14III
Review Date: Oct 12, 2012 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: All the good stuff from ver1 but with a little less CA
Cons:
NONE I knew what I was buying and that's what I got

I have not found a problem with it yet! On my 800mm IS this thing is a star and it just gets better as I go down to my 400mm, 300mm and my 70-200mmII... I kept my 1.4 ver1... but I don't know why... this converter is great!

Pros: Size.. Performance Sharpness
Cons:
I purchased this lens knowing it's limitations.. I got way more than I payed for

I had this lens paired with my 5D MKII by Lifepixel and use it for Deep B&W IR It is awesome... it is small enough that it packs away for daily travels as though I am toting around the body with a body cap on it .. it is that light and small... the sharpness and contrast are a super match for the IR conversion...

Pros: Speed of focus, Weight (or lack of), Image Quality, Color...
Cons:
NONE! I knew what I was buying.. I knew that it was not cheep but I also knew that I would get what I was paying for.. This lens is Awesome

As with any lens of great focal length.. technique is paramount.. but surprisingly my kill rate is even greater than expected.. the focus speed is "stupid" quick! I expected sharpness and great color and was not shocked when I looked at the first images WOW!
If you are thinking of getting this lens ... stop thinking and BUY IT! Money well spent

I was lucky enough to get this lens USED (9+) from B&H... They were great and the lens was cleaner than even they stated... I am and have always been VERY happy with them.. my opinion continues.

Pros: Sharp, Good Color
Cons:
None .. it does everything it is supposed to do. I knew the price going in and paid it gladly..

This may seem obvious but having had the Series II and now the Series III .... I see an improvement in image sharpness and color clarity.. The extender does indeed perform as advertised.. I purchased this converter extend my 400mm 2.8L IS... and in the limited testing (I got the converter 2 days ago) I can say that the extender is good wide open and awesome 1 stop down.. In the next couple of days I intend to compare this combination to my trusty Sigma 800 EX 5.6.. More to follow

Pros: Sharp! Great Price Fit and Finish
Cons:
No IS but I DID know this going in

This is my second copy of this lens... yea.. second.. Unfortunate fall took my last one.. as with the first lens this lens will render super images of great color and sharpness.. this like all long lenses is realized by employing good telephoto technique. A sturdy tripod or a good Bean Bag will do the trick.. Sigma really got it right with their long telephotos both the 800 5.6 and 300-800mm 5.6 are great hitters.
