A very popular lens and for many reasons. It's on my XTi all the time now, quite versatile, excellent quality, fast and I think a combo of 17-40 & 70-200 would be sufficient for me. Great build quality, great IQ, can't think of any complaint for now. It's popular so you should be able to get a used one for a good price at a decent quality like I did.

Pros:
Good user-interface, affordable, light-weight, good for beginners, compatible with EF & EF-S lenses
Cons:
Battery is relative weak, viewfinder is somewhat small

This is my first SLR and I love it, so many things to learn. This body is definitely a good starting point for beginners like myself before we upgrade to something higher (like 5D) while still continue to able to use our collection of lenses. Canon definitely has a good marketing strategy to strengthen its penetration for SLR camera line.

Price paid: $420.00
| Rating: 9

Pros:
Affordable, IS works, focal length (28-135) is good for a general purpose lens
Cons:
IQ in low light, 28 is not wide enough for 1.6x bodies
Recommend for beginners like myself, great focal length, IS works well but IQ in low light is definitely not L.

Price paid: $80.00
| Rating: 9

Pros:
Cheap, f/1.8, very compact
Cons:
Cheap build quality, focusing is noisy, too small which make it difficult to hand-hold and easy to produce blurry pictures
This is so cheap comparing to other lenses that even with issues, it's worth to have it. Noisy & doesn't feel solid. Mine made in Malaysia so Canon can cut cost & pass on to us.
