I originally bought the Xti with the 18-55 (NON IS) lens kit. It was disappointing with the softness, even in RAW and post processing in Photoshop. After shooting about 400 pictures I am amazed at the sharpness. Sorry, I haven't got an L lens comparison but the comparison to the non IS kit lens is absolutely amazing. All settings are default on the Xti and I tend to shoot in Av mode around F8 if possible. The price, $249.. Canadian was difficult to pass by, after reading numerous positive reports on this lens.
