I just bought this lense some time ago with an 100/2.8 macro ( I'm a collector ). I didn't use it at all first, didnt even test it actually, until with my friend by mixing it up with the 28 1.8. I was amazed by the contrast and overall image quality ( despite the little amout of CA it has ). I really never have liked shooting color pictures, because of bad contrast ( 70-200 4L and 24-70 2.8 EX especially imo ), but this one is a real diamond.
About the build. Well ... It's as good as any other lense from canon, no need to brag about anything.
I do alot of street photography and this lense performs quite good. The slow AF limits getting great shots though ( I don't actually know if it focuses slow, but it seems like it doesn't really focus on the point i want it to? )

Pros:
|
- Very sharp!
- Great all around lense!
- I like it being heavy, fits well with my 20D.
|
|
Cons:
|
- For some peoople the weight could be an issue!
- Zooming ring very hard to turn ( stiff )
- Fingers get stuck under the 20D flash ( Too close to the body )
- To change focusing mode, you have to turn a button and slide
the zooming ring back and forth.
- The focus mode button broke the plastic ring near to the body.
( Very hard to set it to other position )
- Noisy AF. Same kind of voice like from those cars you first pull backwards and then let go.

When i first got this lense, i was stunned by the weight. It is heavy for it's size, but when i've used this lense for 2 months, i like it much better than my canon L lense. Build quality is good, but some things just irritate me! Why do you have to make 2 things to change focusing mode? And why is the AF/M button placed so badly? It broke the plastic cover around the lower part of the lense.
I payed quite alot for this lense, but im just so satisfied that i would honestly recommend this lense to everyone wanting a superb all around lense!
